I never use self-checkouts but I observe them while walking by. I wait in line for a clerk at a cash register while all those in the self-checkout line seem to have a personal assistant.

My preferred shops in Denmark allow you to use an app to scan and bag produce while roaming the store, payment is done on the app as well and to exit you show a QR code to a scanner. I love it

At least in my neck of the woods there isn't a lot of choice. Self check out, or your alternative is shopping online.
