Seems like this is just an American thing. I have a German and an American account and couldn't find the "About You" page on the German one. Man, I love GDPR

I don't think is that. They have the data about you and me too, it's just not shown like that (yet, at least).

Making those assumptions based on what you've bought from them is perfectly legal under the gdpr. Maybe you have to check a personalized ads option, or leave it marked, but I think that as long as you tell them in your privacy policy when they agree with it that your using their data for it you're good.

I wouldn't celebrate prematurely. It could very well mean that both German and American Amazon profile you, but American is just more transparent about it because Americans aren't as spooked by surveillance as Germans are.

There is a current proposal by the Irish presidency of the EU commission that would allow a GDPR exception for anything relating to AI.

Hope it dies in parliament. But never forget that the rights that do exist in the EU are constantly under attack by lobby interests.
