Merrit-based scholarships are often awarded solely on merit without finance review and without a student ever applying for them. They are algorithmic.
This came up in an interview about how she was proud they worked through their ADHD and did what they said they would, worked hard and got accepted to all colleges they applied to, including getting scholarships.
It was never stated that they accepted the scholarships.
Memes often lack nuance. Though it could also be that they took the money and never give back. I don't follow celebs enough to know.
