I took a class about learning taught by Dr. Barbara Oakley, who is a neuroscientist.
She points doorways out as one way the brain shifts context. New room, new context. Which is why you walk into a different room and immediately forget why you were there. It’s built in!
She also provides a benefit to this: you can associate specific things with specific rooms of a house (which she called a “memory palace”), then when you recall the room, the item can be associated with it.
In this way, you might be able to remember “3 eggs” by picturing the three eggs in the fridge in your mind before you opened the door. Put them in a triangle, maybe. 3 might fit right in your hand, too. But three of them are in the fridge.
Then when you open the door chanting “3 eggs” you have a location-specific memory trigger AND something to remember how many you actually need, depending on your visualization.
Also, hold 3 fingers out, silly
