Go reread that last link. Soviet Russia had already begun a covert operation against Poland. Here's the appropriate timeline.
1937 - Stalin kills about 100,000 Polish folk living in Russia at the time. This is called the NKVD Polish Operation.
1939(April) - Stalin signals alliance with Britain and France.
1939(August) - Stalin makes his alliance with Hitler.
You people try so hard to defend this man and just don't know history. They didn't wanna align with Stalin because his interest wasn't in fighting Germany or stopping Nazis. It was control and power. He wanted an excuse to push troops into Poland under the guise of fighting the growing German threat and when that didn't instantly form, he abandoned it and went straight to the Nazis.
Stalin had no interest in avoiding war. He outright went looking for it and tried to place himself in the best position for it. His own actions of murder and deceit is why nobody wanted to work with him.
So no. He did not offer a truce to fight Hitler. He killed 100,000 polish people and then scrambled and panicked that he'd be on the wrong side of the guns when war was going to inevitably break out. Not only did he directly aim to destroy Poland exactly like Germany but he ended up working with them to do exactly that.
