There are obviously different types of children. When I was in elementary school, I made a really stupid comment about a game my friends and I were playing, and even though my friends didn't say anything about it, my stupid comment haunted me for years, even though I was the only person who remembered it.

Strangely, I'm old enough now that I don't remember the comment, and I don't even remember the game.

Anyways, my memories lingered, even in childhood. But I think I had more fun back then. The highs were definitely higher, but the lows were lower, too.

Put into perspective of adult lows, the lows were usually pretty insignificant, but the lack of agency when it came to dealing with them was a lot higher compared to today, so they felt insurmountable and horrible
