Maybe -- wait, hear me out -- if they didn't murder people, fewer people would be motivated to "become terrorists". Just a thought.

Terrorist in this case is just a word we use to describe people that come to the correct conclusion; that violent resistance is the only answer after generations of occupation and oppression. When the oppressive empire and your occupiers slaughter innocent people for daring to attempt peaceful resistance. Violence is all that remains.

When we watch it in Star Wars we cheer for them. When we watch it in real life. We call them terrorists.

Terrorism, like so many things, is used to discredit out groups. To demonize them and to create a easy scapegoat.

The simple definition of terrorism is the unlawful use of violence or the threat of violence to coerce a civilian or government for political or social objectives.

By this definition this administration is using terrorism on its own people. Israel likewise is also guilty of terrorism. In fact, you could argue that these two entities are actually responsible for more terrorism than anyone else in the world.

But we are in the right guys, so it's all good /S

is the peaceful resistance in the room with us

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 4 points 8 hours ago

No it was during the great march of return when Israel slaughtered unarmed Palestinians.

The virtuous circle - more murdered people makes more enemies, which makes more excuses to murder people.

It's perfect. Nothing could ever go wrong with it.

Let's also not forget those terrorists who refused to engage in regular line infantry battles like gentlemen, instead sniping from the treelines and striking in small groups at night before stealing provisions and equipment, then fleeing. Their commander even had deserters executed.

Like, I'll be one of the first to condemn Hamas as actual terrorists, attacking civilian targets to spread terror and taking civilian hostages.

... but the appropriate response to that is not to murder every civilian in the other country. And anyone who believes that Israel's behavior is a response and not an excuse for the long-standing ambition of the Israeli right's dream of genocide is not paying attention.

Israeli government: So your saying it is a response of sorts?

[–] azertyfun@sh.itjust.works 5 points 23 hours ago

I mean, complete genocide is certainly a proven way of achieving that same goal. Dead people don't make terrorists either.

How about - hear me out - we don't try to make everything fit into some kind of utilitarian cost-fitting function. Human rights are sacred. No ifs, no buts, no back-forming some convoluted reasoning why the Right Thing To Do is actually Self-Serving™.

The indiscriminate killing of children is a Crime Against Humanity and that argument alone renders every other argument futile at best, disingenuous at worst.

Sure, but then how do we excuse annexing that country later?
