$20 says the boyfriend gets a firearm charge for discharging it within city limits 🙄

Jokes aside, they're very lucky to be alive, and the boyfriend knew how to use the rifle well enough to maximize the use of each round.

For those unaware: .22 calibre is one of the smallest and weakest cartridges you can buy, and I'm shocked that it took down a moose. Granted, it took 15 hits, and probably had to be well placed hits

A single .22 will euthanize a Belgian draft horse when point blank and placed exactly right, but obviously when your target is thrashing around and in the general chaos of the moment it would be difficult, which is why it took 15.

If the moose was attacking them it would be very difficult to kill it from the front with a .22, no easy feat

Guessing it was a .22 pistol and he was basically point blank. Having shot a lot of .22, ~1/15 actually penetrating the skull and killing it makes sense. Hits from a .22 in the right (wrong?) spot and/or far enough away will fail to penetrate a human skull, and we don't fight with our heads.
