Kamala Harris will receive protection from the California Highway Patrol after Trump revoked her Secret Service protection, law enforcement sources said Friday.

California officials put in place a plan to provide Harris with dignitary protection after Trump ended an arrangement that gave his opponent in last year’s election extended Secret Service security coverage.

Trump signed a memorandum on Thursday ending Harris’ protection as of Monday, according to sources not authorized to discuss the security matter.

I’m not a fan of Harris but I support this.

She would have been an amazing president compared to what we have now.

A crusty cum sock on a stick would have been an amazing president compared to what you have now

Don't say their name. You summon them when you say their name!!!

He's higher up in the chain... He's already watching you, with only one hand visible.

It's kind of weird how the CHP has become a hammer for things distinctly not about the highway. Got crime in Oakland? Send in the CHP with video cameras. Got homelessness? Send in the CHP to do a sweep. Need security? Send in the CHP. That being said this is the least offensive unorthodox use Newsome has used the CHP for.

CHP is california's state law enforcement agency, since "merging" with CSP (state police) in the 1990s.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago

As I understand the CHP absorbed the California State Police several years ago and are basically the equivalent of State Police or State Troopers in other states.

CHP are to highways what RCMP are to horses

[–] Auntievenim@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

What does john frusciante have to do with horses?

I mean, the FBI is totally compromised at this point anyways. I wouldn't count on them protecting me if I was the political opposition to Mango Mussolini.

As soon as I read this I had to go and listen to the CHiPS TV theme.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Hm. Wouldn't the State Guard of California be more suitable for military-adjacent things like bodyguards?

[–] redhorsejacket@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I mean, tbh, I would consider VIP protection to be far less military-adjacent than police adjacent.

I am of the mind that America is headed into a civil war. I bet a chunk of the Union army in the 1st American Civil War was dedicated to guarding politicians and commanders from Confederate assassins.

Wrong!

It was the Fucking Pinkertons!

Allan Pinkerton's one saving grace is that he was an abolitionist. He volunteered his company's services as both PR and ideological motivation. This would pay off for him in the end as the Union politicians remembered the favor and awarded his company lucrative contracts in both Reconstruction and the last of the Indian Wars... And of course, union busting.

Permanent protection services like Secret Service wouldn't be formed until McKinley's assassination, until then it was generally a mixture of private guards and yes, sometimes military units, but it wasn't common for them to be permanent details.

Imagine being a member of the secret service, and following this fucking idiots orders to not protect his political opponents... The absolute shame across the board of those in any form of LAW enforcement, and following out the most unamerican orders seen this side of Russia... You are all scum. Because of people like you, dictators are allowed to be dictators. Because you, their right and left hands, do the their evil bidding. Shame on you. Shame on you all.

In case there was still any question of if Harris was a cop.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Okay, now do the CDC
