A plan circulating in the White House to develop the “Gaza Riviera” as a string of high-tech megacities has been dismissed as an “insane” attempt to provide cover for the large-scale ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian territory’s population.

Named the Gaza Reconstitution, Economic Acceleration and Transformation Trust – or GREAT – the proposal was reportedly developed by some of the same Israelis who created and set in motion the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) with financial planning contributed by Boston Consulting Group.

Most controversially, the 38-page plan suggests what it calls “temporary relocation of all of Gaza’s more than 2 million population” – a proposal that would amount to ethnic cleansing, potentially a genocidal act.

Palestinians would be encouraged into “voluntary” departure to another country or into restricted, secure zones during reconstruction. Those who own land would be offered “a digital token” by the trust in exchange for rights to redevelop their property, to be used to finance a new life elsewhere. Those who stay would be housed in properties with a tiny footprint of 323 sq ft –minuscule even by the standards of many non-refugee camp homes in Gaza.

I assume it's not just a pathetically transparent and tone-deaf attempt to distract from the genocide, but specifically a way to get Trump wholly on-board, since nothing makes his little tiny dick pudgy quite like beachfront property.

It also envisages an “Elon Musk” manufacturing park located – without irony – on the ruins of the Erez industrial zone.

Yes they are.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 days ago

Just call it genocide. That's what it is.

I did not have "use NFTs as a tool to fuck over the people of Gaza" on my bingo card

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

You should have. NFTs and other Crypto schemes are at the forefront of the "Eat the Bugs, Live in the Pod" economic model.

And Palestine is at the forefront of human immiseration. What happensed to Gaza in the 2010s has been rolled out to immigration camps in the US and Europe in the 2020s. What we're seeing in Gaza today is the future for The West.

Netanyahu and Trump will go down in history as 21st century genociders. drown in your legacy you absolute pieces of turd. Your grandchildren and children will live with the shame of what you have done.

[–] pigup@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He don't GAF I assure you.

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

GAF? I assume this has to do with what a narcissistic asshole he is. But believe these man are obsessed with their legacy, being worshipped and need approval on a mental disease level. Look at how Elon is trying to impress gamers and geeks and how hard Trump is trying to get a Nobel peace prize. If they die realizing their money empire will collapse and humanity will hate them forever, I believe it will be pretty agonizing for them.

The genocide was made possibly by the whole US uniparty and the EU. Israel will receive a minor spot in history at the path of self destruction it is on now.

Netanyahu and Trump are nothing but a representation of their respective countries.

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

yea well ofcourse the collective insanity of about half the citizens of US and EU will also be recited again and again just like it did with Nazi germany.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No no Guardian, don't play their game. Ethnic cleansing was literally not a term until the 90s. The Clinton admin made it up out of nothing to justify why the US didn't have to intervene in Rwanda, and everyone else went with it because it was convenient for them, because everyone else was trying to figure out how they didn't have to intervene as well. "Ethnic cleansing" is just genocide in a wrapper.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

The term was first used by Serbs to describe the forced displacement of Albanians in Kosovo.

The Clinton administration has a lot to answer for, but not for coining that particular shitty term.

[–] Harvey656@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Nothing quite like building a utopia on the corpses of civilians! So many families could raise their children there with big smiles on their faces!!

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

What if the Saudis' Neom was more genocidal and less fiscally sound?

[–] errer@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

It’s only insane if it doesn’t work. If the rest of the world is complicit in their genocide, they’ll have no problem accepting this new Gaza resort as being acceptable. Only defeat of the genocidal regime would prevent this.

[–] FlowVoid@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Dismissed by whom?

[–] ultranaut@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Its odd the R in GREAT is for Reconstitution instead of the more obvious Reconstruction.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 1 points 4 days ago

I wouldn't get too comfy there. Climate change is the one who knocks.

[–] Opisek@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

So a rebranding of "Trump Gaza Number One"? Nothing new.

[–] whiwake@lemmy.cafe -5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Hey ML, and Non-Voters, how do you feel about letting Trump develop property on the Strip—sorry, the 🪄_Riviera_! Was it worth it to crush the west?

You helped this happen. If you respond, justify your actions now that you know reality, don’t just cry about me hurting your feelings.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

how do you feel about letting Trump

Love to scream "You did this!!!" to a bunch of California and New York leftists for falling to swing races in Florida and Michigan.

Incidentally, I hope you enjoy eating big burning bags of dogshit as your boy Cuomo places fourth in a three man race for mayor.

[–] whiwake@lemmy.cafe -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I’m not a democrat, why would he be my boy? People can vote to stop Trump and totally hate the choice—but like the choice a lot better than letting him win.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

They were being patronising. People often sneer like that when they have no rational argument.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Watch out the genocide apologists have arrived.

[–] whiwake@lemmy.cafe -3 points 4 days ago

Haha no one is apologizing for anything, MAGA lover.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Unless the Gazans spearheaded this Hamas free, it's still cleansing. No idiot can look past this and say otherwise.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

Ethnic cleansing is a euphemism for forced expulsion of a population. Mass starvation is not displacement, it's genocide.
