Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

This is bizarre even by girl dinner standards

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 week ago

that's a compliment in my books

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I can’t even tell what the cheese is sitting on. Everything visually is telling me it’s a paper towel and I really hope I’m wrong.

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 34 points 1 week ago (2 children)

there's no cheese, that's the oil from microwaving the pepperonis lol

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don’t know whether to be relieved or horrified.

[–] berkaderka@piefed.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Probably a little of both, honestly. That's how I feel anyway.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's a bit sad because you lose so much flavor

[–] Master@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Unless you lick the plate clean.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

I'm pretty good at licking things clean

I was going to post this anyway, but I thought that was rice with butter or something on.

[–] JetpackJackson@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago

Right? It looks like paper towel

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

reminds me of "depression soup," for some reason

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago

Waayyy back in the day, I went skiing with some friends. I was broke as hell and like 17. I could barely afford to be there at all and hadn't brought any food. I basically did this with ketchup packets in the lodge. It felt bad.

this is kinda a mixture of 2 family recipes. My sister found out you could put pepperonis on a paper towel and microwave them for a minute to make little chips. They're pretty good, you should try them. Wait for them to cool some (but still warm) to make them crunchy and they're AMAZING as a snack. only problem is you can only make a few at a time.

Then my mom used to put whipped cream and sprinkles on some banana slices as a snack when we were little. they're really good for kids, not so much for adults for some reason 🤷‍♀️.

came home from uni and my dad's house doesn't have many snacks so I got bored and decided to mix them. Actually not bad tbh, if I owned a restaurant I would probably get some really big pepperonis and while they're still hot I would roll it and fill them with icing or whipped cream like a cannoli. That would be gas 🔥🔥

You're absolutely fucked in the head.

Is your Tuesday night clear, your taste in much older women completely without standards, and your kidneys/liver hungry for adventure?

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

i... dont like this... makes me feel... like there is no static reality to grab onto - makes me feel like everything is arbitrary and unstable, changing as soon as we look away, to be found in a state which "makes sense" but isnt really what we left behind.

i feel like if i touched a wall, it might feel rigid, but if i pushed into it, it would become soft, i would pass thru and wake up-

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

When the pizza picture is so bad it gives people an existential crisis.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

ive heard this "existential crisis" word a lot, but never knew what it was.

is what i described such a crisis?

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah, kinda. I'm probably guilty of some pop philosophy here, but it's basically something that makes you rethink your whole life.

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah, that or disrealization.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago

You monster

[–] Tilgare@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is the base level that the cheese got melted onto... A paper towel? Looks like a plate, paper towel, and THEN the cheese.

[–] Tilgare@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

OH, and they tore the paper towel corners so it fit easier in the microwave I think.

[–] Twongo@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago

Quin what the fuck

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Reddi-Whip & pepperoni slices - looks like prep for a kinky night of fun (think edible pasties). The energy drink just lends credence to the idea.

all the food groups

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

So youre eating microwaved pepperoni with whipped cream and sprinkles on them? Is that what im seeing? If you just ate the pepperoni out of the bag and had whipped cream with sprinkles separately it wouldnt be a great dinner, but kicrowaving and combining them is really throwing me for a loop

[–] pixeltree@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

I can't say I've seen a more bizarre leftover food construction, good job
