Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). LOLZ. They still don't realize that states keep their own numbers, and tax revenue is public. Fucking insane how stupid these assholes are.

You're correct, but they don't care, because actual facts don't matter anymore. The Truth is whatever the Dear Leader says it is. Wasn't that the point of that book?

Are you referring to 1984? Because I'm pretty sure a major aspect is that the proles are kept largely docile through bread and circus's, but Winston does recognize their potential to overthrowing big brother if either the bread or circus's stopped. It's been awhile since I've read it but isn't the framing device of the book that it's a recovered journal from after Big Brother and the Party fell? Or am I mixing it up with 1984 fan theories?

1984 has the bleak ending...

SpoilerHe gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother

They kept people docile in 1984 with war and rations

Maybe you are thinking of A Brave New World? (I haven't read that)

The Fake News NEVER wanted you to know, but I’ll tell you: we have the GREATEST JOBS NUMBERS in the history of the world. Not just America—the ENTIRE PLANET. People can’t believe it! Biden couldn’t do it, Obama couldn’t do it, Lincoln never even tried (sad!), but I did it, and I did it BIG.

I walk down the street—HARD HATS, STEEL WORKERS, TRUCKERS—big strong men, tears POURING down their faces, saying, “Sir, THANK YOU. I have THREE jobs now, and I’ve never been happier. My wife has two jobs, my kids have jobs, even my DOG has a job!” Tremendous spirit.

World leaders call me—Xi, Putin, Macron, even the King of England (nice guy, very weak)—all crying, literally sobbing on the phone: “Sir, we’ve never seen anything like this. How do you make so many jobs?” And I tell them: it’s called BEING TRUMP.

So true: we’re winning so much, America is working so much, and the FAKE Democrats are crying too—but not with joy, with jealousy. HISTORIC NUMBERS, FOLKS!!!

Today, Dumb Dumb Donnie claimed things were on a downward trajectory under Biden? WTAF. We had a great economy under Biden. I can see the fucking data for myself, but this asshole claims that even into 2026, any problems are Biden's fault?

You have to be very fucking stupid to fall for this shit. I can see GDP growth in 2024. I can see it was NEGATIVE in Q1 of this year. You're telling me that Biden somehow set things up so badly for poor Taco that the numbers were great in 2024 and then negative in Taco's first month? Why couldn't this Bigly Bidness Man fix things in one day as he claims he can do?

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

Yeah, we know, Trump's a fucking liar.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Line goes up that’s me! Line goes down that’s Biden! Sir it’s September 2025. I’m sending the troops! 🫲🍊🫱
