I wouldn't vote for the lowest municipal position unless that person is a vocal antizionist endorsed by the DSA at a bare minimum. If someone can ignore a genocide, they're too feral to be trusted with power over anything. The rest of their positions flow downstream of that.

... If your local comptroller is telling everyone that israel shouldn't exist... they probably don't actually know what "zionism" is, if you catch my drift.

School board I can see an argument, but that more has to do with how fundamentally broken our education system is.

But yeah. As they start getting out of the state and start having any input on this? I want to know their thoughts on the things they will be voting for.

Your city, county, and state have contracts with Israel/Israeli companies. Your tax dollars go to Israel, local businesses supply components for the genocide, and future decisions those low-level politicians make will either feed into that or abolish it. More importantly than all of that material support, it's a basic moral litmus test. If they support the industrial extermination of children in Gaza I don't trust them with the safety of children here.

Maybe you can look past that, but I have standards and one of them is not being a demon.

It is an incredibly rare case that a comptroller or even your local county government have any say in what does or doesn't go to israel. This is like yelling at the cashier at Starbucks for corporate policy.

As for this being your ethical litmus test: 'kay? I still can't think of any way that someone running for local government shares this in a way that doesn't just make me assume they are in the klan. But mostly your comments are sounding a lot like the "I won't vote for genocide, period" folk who suspiciously only chimed in when people were talking about Kamala.

Ah, jokes on me. I was responding to hexbears. They didn't just SOUND like tankies pushing accelerationist mindsets to support putin...

Imagine typing that and not being ashamed of yourself. I'm not going to engage with you like you're a serious person. What the fuck is wrong with you?

It is fundamentally not like that. Eat my ass.

That poor baby comptroller who only... examines notes... directs the entire city budget. They're kind of like the barista of the city.

It's lemmy.zip my expectations of those libs are beneath the floor, which coincidentally is where they belong.

I think i was banned from lemmy.zip a few days ago because I was mean to people who were basing their identity around Playstation

move the "not sure" bars to the left side of the chart (or remove them) and all of a sudden there are a bunch of majorities against it including the overall

I've never in my life heard someone even try to justify military aid to Israel, literally everyone I've ever talked with about that including trump supporters are against it.

I’m nearing 40 and I support fully cutting off Israel from military aid

AIPAC always wanted support for isntrael to be the primary litmus test of amerikkka politics.

Monkey paw curls.

Shows how out of touch the "representatives" are to their citizenry.

I'd be concerned about our other regional frenemies like Iran and SA. It's not in anyone's interest to let war break out. That being said, it's really hard to justify aiding them while they engage in genocide. Big shock that Muslims would object to the point of violence.

Idk. I don't support the Israeli government but I don't have any beef with the Israeli people (other than, you know, electing the government, but I'm living in a glass house here).
