The last "nice"/"fancy" fridge my spouse and I bought was a Samsung. It didn't have a screen because those weren't a thing at the time. But it had the fancy in door ice and water dispenser, freezer on the bottom, double doors on the fridge portion, LED lighting, you get the picture. Anyway, it was something like $2500 on sale.

That fucking fridge never fucking worked right. Had to defrost it manually every couple of months. We made warranty claims on it, had Samsung techs come out and replace the coils, the fan, the control board, the defrost heating element, you name it. Still, like clockwork, the fucking coils would freeze in the back of the refrigerator portion. And we'd have to take all the food out, lay out a bunch of towels, and get a hair dryer and melt all the ice again.

Finally I had enough. My spouse had enough. We went and bought a no frills, no ice maker, freezer on top LG for $700. And have had no problems in the five years since. All that to say, fuck the fancy appliances with Internet access/etc. If you can't make a refrigerator that is able to stay cold without external intervention, then don't make fridges...

Rca from 1991 going strong!

My Fridge is maybe only 6 years old, it will die one day... but I swear to god I will never have an appliance in my kitchen or Laundry that advertises to me or buys shit for me.

TBH anyone who buys Samsung appliances/electronics has done this to themselves. They’ve been notorious for this, for years.

They’re unreliable anyway.

I guess if you get a deal you can neuter them, and sometimes you’re just stuck with it if it comes with the place, but still.

Just redone my kitchen, put a dumb LG fridge/freezer in and deliberately ignored a near identical Samsung one, because the TV I bought five years ago is the last home appliance I will ever own by Samsung, it’s a really simple smart TV, and the the features it has are terrible, has ads in the home screen and keeps asking me to accept new T&Cs that I keep cancelling, no Samsung, I don’t want to change how I use the TV I bought years ago, since that’s when I made the sale contract to own my tv.

Goes well with all the ads and annoyances in their TVs... But seriously, can't wait for Gemini in the fridge, Cortana in the next LG TV update... 😑 Still need Siri in the trash bin and a loo enhanced with Alexa.

Tfw you communicate more with AI than people

I still wonder if this will awaken some people because they're adding way to much bad stuff all at once. Or if it's like with social media, society, dating, freedom... Where people will just accept how it's all become worse and they're miserable now.

[–] PoliteDudeInTheMood@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

I think they're pushing it so hard so we become accustomed to it sooner. And before we know it, we'll have come to accept its place in our lives. Because the bubble can't burst at this point, the fallout will be too great. Not for us, but the poor executives will have lost money

All AI belongs in the trash!

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Samsung was always shit at this.

Just make the phones Samsung and stay out of everything else.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They used to make good (but expensive) dumb tvs

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Well if my ma used to have wheels she have been a bicycle.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Also valid, lol

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Galaxies? The hardware is fine, but from all my experience with them, I wouldn’t touch their flavor of Android with a 50 foot pole.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

That's what I'm saying. I had a galaxy and I litterally downgraded to get rid of the Bixby button.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Samsung appliances are complete trash.

[–] Phil_in_here@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

whether you need it

Can someone please explain this part? What possible benefit could there be?

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

The only REMOTELY possible benefit I could think of is to remind you when something is expired/needs to be cleaned out.

I guarantee it's just to shove tailored ads in your face while you shove food into it

[–] angstylittlecatboy@reddthat.com 5 points 1 month ago

If you buy a smart fridge you're probably the kind of person who thinks this is cool tbf.

It's not like smart fridges ever became a norm like smart TVs.

[–] realitaetsverlust@piefed.zip 3 points 1 month ago

At this point, I'll rather go to caseohs house, dress up as a steakhouse burrito, lie down on his front porch and get eaten alive than buy anything made by Samsung.

[–] BranBucket@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

No one needs this. No one.

[–] BigBrownBeaver@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Godspeed with my traditional refrigerator.

[–] aport@programming.dev 1 points 1 month ago

I'm surprised by this considering Samsung puts their shit-tier Tizen OS everywhere.
