It's worth noting that the United Conservative Party (UCP) recently changed the law in order to dramatically lower the bar for triggering a referendum:

She reminds me of Vladimir Putin. Yes, she didn't invade any country and she doesn't throw journalists off buildings. But her way of staying in power is exactly the same: Constantly blaming problems on evil outsiders. Constantly telling people that they are under attack.

Under Justin Trudeau, oil production in Alberta reached the highest level in the history of Canada:
