It's actually the second thing I thought: he was sacrificed at the demonic altar of American fascism. Our only hope ("our" meaning humanity as a whole), from my POV, is that America and Western Europe as a whole collapse internally so the rest of the world can rebuild knowing full well this morally relativistic, sociopathically selfish, hedonistic and consumerist half-baked set of ideas we call "Western culture" (which has reached it's logical conclusion in the US, ofc) is in opposition to the survival and eudaimonia of the human race. But I guess we really needed to get burned time and time again to understand fire is hot? 😔
