Im not super jazzed that my hobbies of amateur radio, vegetable gardening, and target shooting are starting to look more and more like life skills than hobbies . . .

You are either the best person someone can talk with or the worst person. All the people with at least 1 of these hobbies are like that

I like reading about revolutions so you could call it a specific mix of thing's I've admired along the way but yeah. Unrelated I also think mechanical watches are cool so that's another interest that could go either way lmao.

Hm... I need to start getting some of these hobbies... I live in an apartment so gardening seems like a no-go so that narrows it down.

For gardening, more than anything I like just knowing I can do it, some seasons I just have a few tomatoes or peppers in buckets to have something to tend to.

We'd need AI for an AI takeover, so we're safe on that front

Not if we have a nuclear winter first.

[–] gravitywell@sh.itjust.works 10 points 5 months ago

I would consider nuclear winter a pretty big change in climate.

Although patrolling the mojavi might make you wish for one...

"AI bubble causing economic collapse" here.

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 5 points 5 months ago

At least my parents only had to worry about being nuked to bits. I have to also worry about AI nuking everyone's brain cells, and the economy nuking my wallet.

It's called World War Greed.

Where are the friends though? Or is it part of the joke that you don't have any?

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 5 points 5 months ago

The real friends were the internal dilemmas we made along the way.

At what point will there be a mass suicide?

[–] AFallingAnvil@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 months ago

Probably once the climate collapse leads to permanent food insecurity from pollinators going extinct
