ah shit, now I'll have to go back to earth to see this

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It is pretty sick how the sun and moon just happen to seem the same size from the surface. Nowhere else has the magic of eclipses like Earth.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's also a now thing. The non avian dinosaurs didn't have them either

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Plenty of other places have it, and even more would have moons that take up a larger field of view than their star. The universe is so large it's not like it would be unique to earth.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

OK you 'Ackshually...' ass nerd, give us names and coords so we can portal there and see a better eclipse that you claim isn't special!

SMH my head, kids these days...

gonna use this as an opportunity to educate:
You can tell the time by what shape the moon is and its position in the sky, e.g. a full moon in the northern hemisphere rises at ~18:00 and is highest in the sky at midnight.
This is why the moon is generally associated with nighttime, the blatantly obvious phase is only above the horizon at night, while the basically invisible phase is only up during the day.

From wikipedia, focus on the illustrations and the average moonrise and moonset times.

When will I be able to see the Earth?

[–] ewigkaiwelo@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Don't forget it will be visible from the Moon Next Night

[–] Johanno@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

And day.

Except for the dark side of the moon.

While it isn't always dark there you won't see the earth.

[–] krunklom@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The moon killed my parents.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

[–] darkreader2636@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

you need to come back to earth to see it, not in the vacumm of the space

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago
