Secretary of War Pete Hegseth

*Secretary of Defense. Trump's demands to rename the departmen are not legal. Only Congress can change the name.

Every time someone follows his insane demands they give it validity. No one should be calling it anything but the Dept of Defense especially outside the US where his "orders" have no relevance at all. Use its legal name.

To be fair, department of war is much more honest and accurate. Every single war the US fought since the end of WW2 was a war of unprovoked aggression. Using euphemisms like department of defense serves to obscure the true nature of the thing.

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This isn't about accuracy. It's about bowing down to the demands of a narcissist tinpot dictator.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

The actual bowing down that we're doing is the refusal to call out an attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of their president.

[–] PanArab@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Canada is welcoming the same fate for themselves.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Our leadership still thinks that they can just keep sucking up and they'll be spared. They're absolutely incapable of adjusting to the new reality that that the US is now cannibalizing its former vassals.

[–] AGM@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Our leadership is also trapped. Nobody is coming to save Canada if the US chooses to do something. I don't think it's likely that they take any military action against Canada, because we're already very compliant and will continue to be, but, if they do attack, we are on our own on an island against a much, much larger power. So, I don't think they see much other choice even if they want one.

The biggest threat to Canada comes from disintegration of social stability resulting from the collapsing living standards. The US doesn't need to invade Canada when they can simply use social divisions to do political capture. It's the formula the US has already ironed out in Latin America. The best defence against that is ensuring that we have a stable economy that actually serves the interests of people in Canada.

We should be creating crown corps to kick start infrastructure development and manufacturing here. And Liberals are doing the exact opposite of that by creating austerity to feed increased military spending.

So, China, Russia and the 'tankies' here are using the US attack on Venezuela for vindication, including by posting 'sources' like the wsws, one of the worst propaganda tools parroting dictatorial statements only.

You can safely ignore that.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago

The US is and always was evil and shouldn't be trusted as an ally. I think you're admitting this is correct, but calling everyone who said it a tankie, and so... "I'd rather be dead or enslaved than ...."?

Libs owwwned! Charlie Kirk is looking down and smiling.

[–] Scotty@scribe.disroot.org -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's one reason why such disinformation is spread: anger. That's one thing propagandists are aiming at. It helps to spread the fake news across the web.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The irony here of course is that the only one spreading misinformation in anger here is you. The article is factually correct and the statements by both parties are a matter of public record. You're really bad at this.

[–] Scotty@scribe.disroot.org 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is one of these sites where you get both the content and your opinion just in the title. You can safely ignore that.

Given this and the tonality of your comments, I end this discussion as it leads nowhere.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

That's right, run along and do your trolling somewhere like reddit where you're not going to get called out on it.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org -2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

So you prefer the US, then? I guess that makes sense as the edgy, contrary position, even if the rest of that side of Lemmy disagrees.

OP wandered in from .ml and posted a thing that seems to be anti-Canada. On .ml they believe the US is behind all evil in the world, so that's a bit of a deviation from the expected, given it's the US threatening us.

OP is themselves Canadian IIRC, though, so it makes a kind of sense.

[–] Zamboni_Driver@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Your comment still doesn't make sense. I have no idea what you are trying to say.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org -3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Hmm, I think you probably do, actually.

[–] Zamboni_Driver@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No? It didn't make any sense in the context of what was being discussed. Your further comments have made it clear that you just came here to harass OP and didn't even try to engage with the source or discussion.

I don't think you could even tell me what the article was about. You literally said that the posted something which "seems to be" anti Canadian. Suggesting that you didn't read it and you don't even know if it's anti Canadian or not.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 2 months ago

I'm in this community all the time, I didn't "come here" at all.

It was a respectful (if pointed) question about what OP believes, because I do also know OP from elsewhere.

Did you read the article? If you had clicked through the link, you'd see it's exactly what it looks like.

making a personal attack when asked why you wrote your drivel really underscores what sort of a clown you truly are

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I see no personal attack in there. Unless you count "Canadian".

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 months ago

Try and read what you wrote when you're sober.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

Congratulations, this is literally the stupidest thing I read today.
