You're just getting stuck because you don't have an IQ of 420, like the quiz said I have after watching some ads and giving them my SSN.

[–] stupidcasey@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

A true 420 IQ would hack the site find the hidden ARG read the source code decrypt the hieroglyph encrypted Gödel’s incompleteness theorem go to Antarctica to dig up a flag buried at 78.4617389°S, 106.84017637°E, fight off the secret Russian military base and then pay 19.99 BTC to continue.

My grandma died ten years ago. She was cremated and buried somewhere in Florida.

She still just forwarded me this post.

I get it, this is one of those reverse colorblindness tests that only colorblind people can see. The hippo must be in an unknown color only visible by those who can't see other colors and have more experience with that unknown color. I can't believe I just figured it out like that.

I’ve got an IQ of ninety-six, which is good enough for me. It’s pretty high, just four points off the maximum.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (3 children)

It's funny, because you literally never see people mention that they're within a standard deviation of the average, even though that's supposed to be 70% of the people who take the test.

Everyone's either bragging about their 140 IQ or accusing someone else of being "room temperature". Nobody seems to understand 96 is normal human intelligence and normal humans are - by and large - smart enough to get the job done.

normal humans are - by and large - smart enough to get the job done

Jury's still out on that one chief

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

The world is built by normal people and ruined by "great" ones.

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I actually have no idea what my IQ is. I just say 96 cause it’s the shy side of perfectly average, and no one has any follow-up questions about that, and then the IQ conversation is fizzled out, and we can talk about more interesting things, like the guy who’s currently leaving a shit against my birch tree just outside.

Fucker better wipe my tree. >:(

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I actually have no idea what my IQ is.

I mean, safe bet that it's within 10 points of 100. Guessing 96 is as valid as any other number in that range.

Fucker better wipe my tree. >:(

It's free fertilizer! You should be thanking him!

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

At the end of the day, I take comfort in recognizing that no one knows me, and that both my contributions and my cringe will be erased from the shore of civilization by the tides of time. I’m not famous, not smart, not special, not a pedophile in charge of the country, I’m just nobody, and that gives me all the power I would ever want.

Epicureanism, in a nutshell

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 1 points 4 days ago

But understanding that is more likely to put you above the average

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

96C is hardly room temperature though.

You think 70C is room temperature?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

70⁰F, because IQ is the obsession of American eugenists.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Bro casually living in a sauna fr 💀

[–] vaionko@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

A sauna is a room isn't it

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Not really.

A room by definition is a subsection of a structure meant for human inhabitation, one that is in some way separated from the rest of the interior subsections.

Saunas are generally completely separate structures that aren't meant for general inhabitation.

[–] vaionko@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago

I agree with not meant for general inhabitation, but a lot of Finnish houses have saunas in them.

[–] Shanmugha@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

IQ test measures how good you are at passing IQ test :)

[–] Zozano@aussie.zone 2 points 4 days ago

Correct.

In fact, I could teach you how to run specific mental programs to identify patterns - at its core it is nothing more than information about how the puzzles are constructed, and would add an extra 10 IQ points to whatever your score is (assuming <120)

[–] Spezi@feddit.org 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I remember a few years ago, when a ton of MAGA people fell for it and payed just to brag that they are in the top 90% of the most intelligent people, not realizing that this means they are in the bottom 10%.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

The first time you get tricked by this can be written off as experimentation. It's the folks that are suckered in over and over again, and take some kind of personal pride in receiving a little "You're Such A Smart Little Guy" certificate from a random website that have you looking sideways.

[–] richie_golds@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

The thing I’d like news sites or other sites that use paywalls to understand is that I am not likely to sign up for a $5/$10/$15/$20+ subscription just to skim through a single panic-inducing article or quiz and then probably never return. I will literally press that little back button and go somewhere else.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

On the one hand, I agree, but on the other hand, this means that the ones supported by the billionaires will have the advantage.

Not that there's any guarantee media you pay for isn't owned by billionaires paying more. Or just promising things to bootlickers that they might never intend on following through on.

[–] MycelialMass@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Ya they need to allow you to read a number of articles to see if thetes any value, im not just gona drop dollars without seeing if its worth it

[–] nagaram@startrek.website 1 points 4 days ago

Also its insane they ask for like $10/month for articles.

I get it, we're in the age of subscriptions, but that's a lot for articles when I can get my local newspaper for like $50/year

[–] arctanthrope@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

when I see people bragging about their high IQ it reminds me of those people who buy sports cars and then take them around to shows on a trailer with 5 miles on the odometer to talk about how it has 750 horsepower and a top speed of 300mph

[–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago

An extra twist is when you then get fooled to pay $10-20 they will take the same amount once a week until you notice.

[–] nagaram@startrek.website 2 points 4 days ago

I've got a right wing acquaintance who thinks I'm a genius and asked my IQ

His ghasts were flabbered when I said I don't know and I don't want to know.

[–] Rubanski@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Is there even an official IQ test or does everyone just cook their own soup?

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 8 points 5 days ago

IQ is a bullshit thing anyway. It's invented by some white guy from the 1900s who thought intelligence could be quantified and/or wanted a reason to discriminate against non-white people.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 3 points 4 days ago

Yes, there are official tests, but they aren't called "The IQ Test".

The set of tests that most people think of as the IQ test are the Wechsler Scales. There's one for adults, one for children around preschool age, and one for the children in-between.

There are a few other intelligence scale tests, but the Wechsler ones are the most common.

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

If the test says you're very dumb: well, duh, you're wasting your time for vain reasons online, move along; otherwise: yikes, what a waste of potential, all that grey matter and no bitches/no stacks/no eudaimonia? 🤣

[–] braindamagebuddy@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

If anyone is bored and actually wants to take one of these just for fun - this works pretty well https://openpsychometrics.org/tests/FSIQ/

Did it before with a group of friends and it can be a decent way to waste some time.
