Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

So...he has something USELESS and he wants everybody to FIND a use for it before HE goes bankrupt?

I'll get right on it.

before HE goes bankrupt

He is no risk of going bankrupt. It's before everybody gets angry at him and make him stop.

What is actually even more mindblowing. "Hey, people, find a use for this quickly, before you get too annoyed that I made it!"

Sounds a lot like my previous job 😂

I feel like the admission that AI can't do anything useful by a major tech CEO is pretty big.

Did some of y'all give them permission? I know I didn't give them permission.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nobody that is actually impacted gave a permission, they took as they always do and no governing body did anything to stop or regulate them. The disconnect from reality is obnoxious.

We're just the "consumers" line on their spreadsheet. We're a commodity to them to be exploited for their personal gain, just like everything else on the planet.

The only consideration they give us is that we might get pissed off enough someday to divide their head from their shoulders, the way they've worked for 60+ years to divide us against ourselves.

Yes, please, by all means, do something useful.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 month ago

Weird way to word “people are already pissed” but okay

[–] spacemanspiffy@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

Stop, I can only get so hard.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What 'social permission'? They just started doing it without asking for permission.

[–] ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 month ago

He meant to say “complacency”. Nearly identical pronunciation, easy mistake to make.

Honestly, the most useful thing that Microslop could do that this point is two things: Fully abandon gassed up LLMs (which could never be AI), two fix their Broken Window OS. Or a secret third option: Perish as a company, because they've already embraced failure.

I would be so happy if AI caused big tech to fail without bringing the rest of us with it. Hoisted by their own petard and what not.

[–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

*Foisted by their own petards

[–] waz@feddit.uk 3 points 1 month ago

Hoisted with their own petard.

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 1 points 1 month ago

I always want to say foisted but I went by what wiki said.

[–] Bluegrass_Addict@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

but these companies are too big to fail!! /s

[–] LostWanderer@fedia.io 3 points 1 month ago

ROFL Heh, I was thinking that as I typed. Was waiting on the comment that mirrored my sassy ass thoughts.

Microsoft execs, you dug this hole yourselves, going all-in on tech that needs lots more time to mature and isn't ready for what you want it to do.

[–] Steamymoomilk@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

pokes with stick

Come on do the thing already

I want cheap ram and storage

The smell of despair is intoxicating, i love it. This made me think of the Watchmen and Rorschach's speech at the start of the movie, can't remember the exact words but i think it went kinda like this "when all the whores and politicians beg me to save them i'll just say no", mine would be "when all the CEOs beg me to save their overpriced AI paperweight i'll just say no".

But we are indeed doing something useful!

We are showing everyone how useless it is so you lose all the money you're putting in that shit hoping you go broke and, maybe, take a window to the floor.

You've already lost social permission to drive up our electric bills you overpaid troglodyte.
