I tried a whole bunch of launchers and settled on Pear launcher. I keep KISS launcher solely for the search (launch KISS search on double tapping the home button). Neo launcher was on its way to greatness, but then development was abandoned.... So if anyone has the skills/time/interest in forking that, that would be great.
I'm personally using Kvaesitso, but it isn't necessarily for everyone. Otherwise Lawnchair is quite good and stable (for a beta). It's not on fdroid but it is on izzyondroid
I wish Fairphone is availabke in my country. Well at least he still have HMD/Nokia, but looks like they recently limited the models they sell here
I couldn't be happier than with my Fairphone. Of course, I ditched the original firmware and went for something more lean and privacy-focused.
It has lots of storage which I also extended with micro SD. Now I have my whole music collection for offline-listening.
I can even turn the phone completely off by pulling the battery.
If you complain about your FP, you may wanna try flashing /e/OS or CalyxOS (once they are back) or GrapheneOS (They will port it, soon for the device).
Any source on the grapheneOS? Because everything that I've read about it says that fairphone just doesn't meet the hardware requirements for graphene's security models
Maybe I'm wrong about the GrapheneOS. I have no specific source in regards to FairPhone. However, they announced Graphene to be ported to several devices. (It had been Google Pixel exclusive, until now.)
ew an ad
I only really have a problem with ads that are for shite. Ads for things that specifically provide an ethically better alternative to evil and detrimental mainstreams feel more like necessary PSAs
*evil:
- uses slave labour
- uses policies that lead to harm or death
- actively works to destroy the environment more than fix it
- funds or is funded by evidently cruel parties
- Charges unnecessary profits (>50% of cost to make) to benefit upper management rather than fairly pay employees
*detrimental:
- farms its users for invasive data or provides the tools to do so
- Scams customers by charging much higher costs than appropriate
etc.
For example, Fairphone is currently an ethically clean company, and with Framework, while the laptop division is clean, the management is not.
~~Why not both?~~
Fuck I misread bottom text
Both is good!
Been using Octopi Launcher, and it's a decently solid replacement for Nova. I actually think it's more flexible as you have customization tucked behind the single long press on your home screen. With Nova I always had to figure out the best way to swipe up from the bottom and more than half the time end up opening the app drawer.
Do you find there to be a split second of delay when you switch to it before it'll respond to pressing things? Unsure if I'm going mad, or holding it wrong, or something.
Honestly I've not noticed. Granted, I have a 5 year old sub-flagship Samsung (A70), so there's a little sluggishness all around.
have they come up with a reasonably priced “dumb” phone with an eink display?
I haven't seen any. My wife has a Minimal Phone, which is android, but heavily nerfed in what it can actually run. I can't recommend it though until they fix the connectivity issues. It frequently has problems with wifi and bluetooth, also poor general cellular signal.
Octopus Launcher has been great so far!
Checkout Yantra, a minimal launcher that mimic a command line, distraction free but still has a lot of features and is open source!
I just switched to Dragon-Launcher and like it a lot. Gestures are great to use and the devs are super responsive.
Good luck to you for the next decade. I have a Fairphone for my job and it's an absolute pile of (responsibly produced) garbage. It would be way easier to use a Pixel for 10 years than this sluggish outdated mess is.
See, My trick is that My last phone was even slower and more outdated, so this new one still feels like the future. And when I upgrade to the next model in 2036 I'm gonna be having such a good time. It's all thanks to the power of being poor
Which model Fairphone is it?
