Dress it how you want, a vote for genocide is a vote for genocide.

An accurate picture here would have several hundred thousand Palestinians on both sides of the track. Not to mention it would still have trans people and immigrants on both sides of the track because both of those groups saw attacks on their rights under the Biden administration.

To make it abstract and intellectual like redditors like it: when the trolley problem has 3 people on the tracks and 1 on the other it seems like a no-brainer, but do you really think the same logic applies when there's 500 people on one side and 498 on the other?

Also keep in mind, the actual political system is more complex that one election. If a candidate is completely blown out the party will know it has to switch its platform for the next election. If a candidate gets a decent number of votes then it doesn't switch its platform. If you voted for Kamala Harris in 2024 you effectively let the Democrats know that genocide is negotiable and you are willing to let it slide. If you held your vote you exerted a bit of pressure for Democrats to stop supporting genocide.

Lets be real, if the US population votes in a democrat that isnt at least as left as Bernie or Mamdani, the US will just incrementally move further and further right. Yes its better to get any democrat over a republican, but it wont save the US long term. Its rotten to the core and needs a healthy cleaning from the inside out.

Why aren't we doing anything about the madman driving the trolley?

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 15 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

If you can reach the madman on the trolly, reach him! Right now it's just the lever, and a choice has to be made.

[–] YonicTonic@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 hours ago (13 children)

We're trying, but you keep not listening and saying you have to drive down one of two tracks.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago

If you're incapable of doing two things, you're incapable of fixing anything.

What is even more interesting is that the defeat has been vehemently declared before even the parties named their candidates.

Now excuse me, because US politics are interesting and so, but I need to make popcorn to watch my country's electoral court respond to the police about their involvement on what is looking like the largest corruption scheme in the country's history (what's a really high bar) while they manage what is looking to be the second most polarized election of the century.

yhea, this post is BS. "Hey, let's all retroactively agree to a genocide in Palestine."

Well you see trying to stop a genocide or convince a candidate to come out against it incurs a risk that we might lose an election to a fascist. Luckily since the people who cared are an inconsequential number of non-voting leftists, we can be assured our refusal to take political action or even remotely try to hear out Palestinian voices will guarantee the election. Better to be safe and not try, because that way things can't get drastically worse right? Right.

/s just in case

God, I sometimes wonder if some commenters on here really think that or are sponsored by Republicans

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (11 children)

I always have to wonder if the accounts spamming "Don't vote for the Dems!!!!" are Republican astroturfers, or just useful idiots.

Things will get worse either really fast or kinda slowly but nothing will get better.

There are definitely people on here that keep shitting on those not as extreme as they are. Constantly complaining about liberals not being left enough.

If you dont support communism at their personal definition, you aren't left enough

If you don't support communism and only support socialism within capitalism , you are basically alt-right.

If you dont support capitalism you are also not left enough (somehow. Yes it's confusing but apparently some argue this too).

Honestly it doesn't matter what you say. Someone on here will say you are the problem with why democracy has failed us.

Someone on here will say you are the problem with why democracy has failed us.

It's just tiresome to see people scream "You're the reason Trump won!" when they're in some neon-blue district that goes 80/20 Dem every year regardless of who is on the ballot.

What wizardry does anyone think "Random Asshole On The Internet" has to swing the election? It's like liberal candidates are Tinkerbell and they die if you don't clap hard enough.
