These "bet on anything" sites know people with insider info cheat, and don't care.

[–] frank@sopuli.xyz 58 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The people running the sites take a cut from the other people getting richer.

The real question is who the fuck is betting against that? What a weirdly degenerate thing to bet on without insider info

[–] PanGodofPanic@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 days ago

Maybe there's people indirectly bribing trump&co by putting in bets against it ahead of time?

[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 15 points 2 days ago

It certainly is heinous. I’m assuming a bunch of people had running bets that Iran wouldn’t be bombed inside a certain time period.

[–] stinerman@feddit.online 30 points 2 days ago (4 children)

The crazier thing is that other bettors know people with inside info are cheating and don't care.

[–] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 6 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Thé Guy above ypu made a good argument, that a great way to bribe making it look like a bet.

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh ya because pulling off a bribe right now is a real operation.

[–] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I dunno, is there only one action allowed at the same time ? I mean the world isn't linear, things can happen at the same time.

Sure you could just hand him a gold sword on international tv.

But what if we...

insider trading about inside trading?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago

It's insider trading all the way down

[–] stinerman@feddit.online 61 points 2 days ago (3 children)

The only winning move is not to play.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] stinerman@feddit.online 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is just like gambling on sports when you know that the players are also betting. It's insane.

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'd say it is much worse than that, but an apt analogy.

[–] idyllic@leminal.space 4 points 2 days ago

It is much worse - the fucking players already know the outcome for a particular play.

[–] 13igTyme@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Would you like to play a game?

[–] A7thStone@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How about a nice game of chess.

The house always wins.

[–] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 27 points 2 days ago

WRONG WRONG WRONG

There are laws and enforcement, but only for working class people and well-off Democrats.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

LOL... the orange pedophile rapist is taking open bribes with his eCoin and other scams...

Betting based on classified intelligence is like coffee money

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

These are probably him giving bribes to others, right? He gets to essentially anonymously give someone money without having to actually spend any of his own money

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, he took Billions from people who had to know there was no economic value to his eCoin.

All that money went directly to trump... now they get whatever they asked for

[–] whosepoopisonmybuttocks@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think skua is saying that trump can give someone the classified intelligence and then the person can make the bet and collect the winnings without trump having to pay them himself.

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 6 points 2 days ago

Exactly this, yes

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Regardless of the bet, there are ALWAYS insiders... at the least the house.

The house always wins

This also applies to the stock market, USAs favorite casino

Who's "the house" for the stock market? The FED

About 4-5 hours (IIRC) before, the massive drop-off in bar activity around the pentagon made it obvious something was happening imo. But not sure what evidence was 6 hours before (bar activity was normal at the time I think).

[–] thingAmaBob@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I mean, I’m sure there’s insider betting and all, but I don’t think you need inside information to predict the USA will bomb a school in Iran…

edit: gotta capitalize

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Aren't all these bets made of a blockchain? Aren't these transactions traceable from wallet to wallet?

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

There's a bunch of ways to prevent blockchain tracing now. It's much more likely that you'll be identified by your internet connection or web browsing.

As they say in poker, if you can't spot the fish at the table, it's you.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Can I place a bet that we'll find proof of this? And a parlay bet that nothing will come of it?

[–] Star@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Can we like... Sue, over this? This has to be illegal, right?

I get that I sound like a whiny nerd saying 'BuT ThEy Can'T DO tHaT!' But let's be honest legality is this administration's weakpoint

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Got to prove it first and unfortunately I think that would be very difficult without more to cause a proper investigation.

[–] filcuk@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

They aren't supposed to, but many do anyway. It's all rotten through and through

[–] IntrovertTurtle@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] needanke@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

You can't tell me what to do!

monitor things that the us gov has control over for large sudden bets

copy those bets

money

[–] crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

There's a reason Trump brought attention to only insider stock trading at the State of the Union. They're 100% playing the prediction betting market.

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago

Sounds like Americans to me

Surprised they don’t do this with their school shooters
