Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

A eye is what you see out of, silly.

You walk into the pitching room, and say "by AI, with AI, for AI". All the investors instantly cum

I'm likely less against AI than most of the people here, but I've seen whole pitches were "detail proposal" was rejected because the counter proposal was "AI agents... Somehow". So now we need to fucking cram AI agents on top of the actual work because else we just lose the projects.

10 years ago it was there same with NN. We when had to train a NN to do some deterministic decision three. Just what could be done 100%%accurate with like 20 if else. But sales promised NN. Bonkers.

I'm old enough to remember when vendors were pitching "Fuzzy Logic" ... sigh.

Me: how do I get it without/turn it off

That's the neat part

The kid sitting next to her in the image looks like he could be the father of one of those recently deposed Doge kids.

[–] davidgro@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

In the source of the image, he is in fact a federal government official.

I used to believe that movie wasn't realistic.

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it's not, camacho actively searched out and listened to the smartest people around, for the public good

[–] davidgro@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

That's a good point, and I considered mentioning it, but I mean the overall setting.

He won a contest, got to be a cabinet member.

Looking for a new job. Tried out Indeed’s new “Career Scout powered by AI.”

It’s not AI. It can’t even maintain a conversation. It just responds with canned responses.

[–] cloudskater@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Indeed has something like that now? It's bad enough that empolyers use this shit to write the job descriptions, then use it to reject our resumes without reading them, but now the job hosting site itself is shoving it down our throats.

"Hey, I got an idea how we can stop this worsening of the already inherently flawed job market. Let's fight fire with fire, grease fires with water, and napalm with more napalm! Works every time."

[–] ch00f@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It’s not even that. They just wrapped what could be some buttons in a chat interface.
