Worse, he's now annoying outside the US. Bunch of right-wingers who two weeks ago didn't know he existed feeling personally under attack.

“Strike me down and I’ll become more annoying than you can possibly imagine”

come on, at least make his face the correct size...

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 30 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I didn’t even know who this asshole was, until he got shot.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 17 points 1 week ago

Vaguely, and only because toilet paper USA existed on Reddit.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Same. It even took me a while to notice that he had been shot, because all I could think was “who is that guy and who photoshopped his face to 50% size in ALL these pictures of him?” Eventually I slowed down and read the articles in my feed and realized that is just how he truly looked.

Turning him into the new ‘Murican Yesus

[–] phneutral@feddit.org -5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hat take: He isn't even dead. The whole thing was staged. Just look at the crowds at his funeral … can you imagine to manage an event that huge in just a couple of days?

[–] Asidonhopo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Benadryl is not your friend dude

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean... Is he more annoying? I just see his wife and "friends" jumping onto his corpse to cash in within minutes

It's a very clear reminder of who these people are

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Previously he was easy to ignore. I didn’t even know who he was until I googled it after he died. Now that The Cult of the Mango Mussolini has decided to make it a thing, you can’t get away from it.

Imagine wanting to deify such a horrible person.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 2 points 1 week ago

Well, I'd rarely run into his content, but he was very, very widely boosted on short form video platforms

You might have been able to ignore him directly, but the indirect influence he had is unavoidable

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

This might be the clearest example of “making a martyr out of him” in recent memory.

I heard this phrase in movies and books growing up. People would say “nah we can’t kill him, that would just make a martyr out of him.” And I would always think come on, is that really going to stop someone from killing a rebel or agitator or whatever?

Well, we saw a second rate YT political influencer elevated to “13th disciple in Valhalla” status just by being shot. So I guess there’s your answer.

[–] WraithGear@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

meh, it’s still great he’s dead and in the most ironic way possible. this “martyr” stuff was always worrying about nothing. do you really think any of them (except Candice Owens i think?) cared at all that he is dead? nope they only saw his corpse as a means to climb higher. just like the random car jacking of some nobody was justification to have the national guard lock down two cities. if they don’t have an excuse they would find one anyway.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You think it will be the same for Trump? Worth it still.

Let's find out!

It's John Economos, from Peacemaker!

[–] Hudell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's the ultimate defense. Make people not want to kill anyone else.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean they've played a bit of a stupid game with this one

All the wacko gun nuts are on the right, just like the shooter

They've demonstrated that if a right wing gun nut shoots a high profile right wing personality, the establishment will blame & target left wing people whilst making excuses and "prayers" for the shooter.

Strategically speaking they have to be really really banking on that guy being the only crazy guy out there with a gun.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm ahead of the game. If you go far enough left you get your guns back.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh don't worry I'm aware there are armed responsible leftists

I've just not read of any going on an automatic rifle rampage against kids, so I assume the wackos are predominantly on the other side of the divide

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Apologies, misread you. We got gun nuts like me on the left, but the whacko killers are on the right. And that doesn't seem so much an opinion, more of a fact that evidence backs up.

Had a conservative friend in 2019 or so. Brought up that right-wing violence was the FBI's #1 concern (at the time, on their website). He fucking exploded on me, never seen him so mad. "There go one now!"

[–] drdalek@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

Weird version of the Streisand Effect

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago

He was completely obscured by bigger assholes for quite a while now.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The other concerning thing is like with most terrorist organizations when you take out a leader someone more radicalized will take there spot.

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

yeah but they're well within "diminishing returns" territory on how much worse they can get

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Definitely yes I’m very optimistic that whoever replaces him will be stupider and worse.
