I'm seriously worried that, with JD Vance as president, the Project 2025 White Nationalist Neo-Nazi conversion of the US would hit full-turbo without Trump's total incompetence holding it up.

Trump’s strength is that he dominates the headlines letting all the other assholes usher in fascism.

“As President, Zaphod's role was designed to be a figurehead that wielded no real power, despite appearing to be in charge. His primary responsibility was to be flashy, controversial, and outrageous, thereby focusing public attention on himself rather than the unseen forces actually running the universe.”

True, but Trump is a moron (like Beeblebrox) with a cabinet of morons (unlike Beeblebrox), making the advance of fascism slow and haphazard. Under Vance, it would be much more competent, and we know that Trump wouldn't suddenly vanish. He'd still be a loud, obnoxious asshole, hogging media attention.

JD doesn't have the "charisma" Trump's voters think [trump] has.

and this matters in the near term because congress members are accountable to their constituents,

oh, I agree with you there. But he can be more effective trying to accomplish his goals by stying out of the spotlight while Trump continues to distract.
