Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

It is rather odd, 10, 15 years ago it was a thing but not the thing, now it is like a big percentage of all porn. And all porn is a very big thing, the internet is like over 50% porn thank god. Or thanks somebody. But 10 to 15 years ago it was like Russian porn sites that were doing the step incest thing, now it's everyone. Go figure I don't know.

10-15 years ago was 2011-2016 amigo

There was plenty of that stuff in the American porn scene by then

The “what are you doing stepbro?” joke originated in that period, which inherently necessitated market saturation of that type of porn to work as a mainstream joke

Easy setting that barely required a studio plus the rise of amateur/indie videos. It was expected tbh.

Bold of you to assume there is no gay step porn.

Oh no, step-gay, I'm stuck in a washing machine!

I forgot the number but one of the rules of the internet is that whatever kind of weird kink you can think of it already exists on the internet. 56 is it? That's the only number of the rule of the internet I know

No 34 states that if it exists or can be imagined there is porn of it 35 is if there is none, it will be made

And finally 36 is no matter what it is it’s someone fetish

I wish there was like, a way to specify a tag blacklist in your browser that will apply to all relevant sites even if you aren't logged in or don't have an account on those sites

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or porn sites should just let you exclude terms like regular search engines. "-step", done.

I am not straight, nor do I have siblings. Rationally I don't really see why there would be an issue with siblings having sex recreationally without producing children, which wouldn't even be an issue with step siblings. ~~With step parents the age difference might also be acceptable~~. Edit: not really, since the age difference between the parent and step parent would then likely be an issue. Also I intentionally did not exclude the possibility that it could be an issue. But the other power dynamics associated with step parents are obviously not negligible

Someone recently posted a Wikipedia link to an effect where people growing up together don't feel sexual attraction to each other, which is the primary reason why I assume it is a taboo (I used to think it was because of the negative health effects for incestuous children), but so long as all involved parties consent I see no issue.

With step parents the age difference might also be acceptable.

Excuse me, what? You're not insinuating it would be ok for a step-parent to have sex with their step-child, are you?

[–] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

It would be weird and fucked up, possibly abusive.

But if it's abusive, it's already illegal and no sexual act should be illegal just because I consider it weird.

Might even be unconstitutional to make sex between (adult) step-parents and their children illegal but I'm not sure.

Yeah, there are uncomfortable power dynamics at play for those roles

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait, why exactly? I can see it being a problem in some cases but I wouldn't assume that it is generally a problem. The way I see it it is just two people who are loved ones of a common other (which is not uncommon in polyamorous relationships as far as I know) and the power dynamics would be dependent on those relationships, of which I would assume there is no inherently more powerful one.

The acceptable age ranges do imply something icky between the parent and step parent though.

I should also note that I have not had step parents or children at any point in my life so far and may be unaware of otherwise obvious things.

Yeah! It’s inherently abusive because of those power dynamics.

Porn itself is a lifestyle choice. There are dozens of people who live quite happily without porn.

For me feels like 1000 years little girl on anime that is sexualized, just a way yo "white wash" taboo kinks.
