Still less dystopian than what the government's actually doing lol

Sorry but we ran it past a focus group and it turns out Predators hunting Aliens drives more engagement. We tried ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿป

Let's just call them immigrants or undocumented. "Illegal" just makes them sound like rapists and murderers.

[โ€“] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago (2 children)

also, being undocumented isn't illegal. existing isn't a crime.

[โ€“] Zagorath@feddit.nl 0 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Also, being an alien is not any sort of wrong. People going through the formal authorised pipelines are also aliens.

Somehow people have heard the term "illegal alien" and have decided that they can drop the word "illegal" and retain the same meaning.

[โ€“] DaGreenGobbo@feddit.uk 1 points 3 months ago

I'm an alien

I'm a legal alien

I'm an Englishman in New York

[โ€“] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

yhea, is just a way to signal the world that they're are a racist prick that will only improve the world after their funeral.

[โ€“] zbyte64@awful.systems 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's like a parking ticket. Is everyone who had a traffic violation now an illegal person?

[โ€“] morkyporky@suppo.fi 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Oh a parking ticket, like you get when you're parking illegally? https://portal.311.nyc.gov/article/?kanumber=KA-01986

[โ€“] zbyte64@awful.systems 0 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Yes, exactly like that. The act is illegal. Not the person. It's not even a felony for heavens sake.

[โ€“] morkyporky@suppo.fi 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Right so you would agree that being undocumented is in fact illegal?

[โ€“] zbyte64@awful.systems 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yes, breaking the law is illegal. Do you understand that doesn't make the person illegal or even a felon?

[โ€“] morkyporky@suppo.fi 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I didn't say anything about a person being illegal or a felon. I said that being undocumented is illegal. Because it is.

[โ€“] zbyte64@awful.systems 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yes and further up the person was talking about how no person is illegal. So why are you even arguing?

[โ€“] morkyporky@suppo.fi 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'm not arguing with that statement I was arguing that being undocumented is in fact illegal. As in its against the law. Regardless of how you feel about it.

[โ€“] zbyte64@awful.systems 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

And I will argue that is some very dubious context given how people are being treated. Like people are disappearing and you're out here arguing they did a crime. Great job. Many of them aren't even undocumented.

[โ€“] morkyporky@suppo.fi 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Undocumented or illegal immigrants committed a crime. You may think that it shouldn't be a crime, but at the moment it is a crime.

[โ€“] zbyte64@awful.systems 0 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I think it's rather beside the point when talking about human rights. Why do you think it is relevant to repeat ad nausea in the context of human rights?

[โ€“] morkyporky@suppo.fi 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The only point I was trying to make is beside the point? You can believe whatever you want about immigrantion and how it should work. That doesn't magically make illegal immigration legal. Law is distinct from morality.

[โ€“] zbyte64@awful.systems 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's like me saying what the Nazis did was legal when someone brings up the holocaust. Like what is your point in making this distinction? To show us you understand definitions? Good for you I guess... ๐Ÿ™„

[โ€“] morkyporky@suppo.fi 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I think the Nazis would have euthanized you as a child for being so fucking stupid. Do you really not think that the Nazis legalizing all of their atrocities is incredibly important to keep in mind giving whats been happening lately?

[โ€“] zbyte64@awful.systems 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I don't think it's important, just like the legality of "illegal humans" is not important to how people are being mistreated. You're the one bringing up legality in this context.

But please continue to insult me. In the states we have a saying: a hit dog will hollar - behind your anger is a fear and behind that fear is something you love. If you keep it up there will be enough pieces to figure out what is motivating you

[โ€“] morkyporky@suppo.fi 1 points 3 months ago

Holy shit. Please continue to highlight the failings of the United States educational system. Or lack thereof. I corrected someone who said that being undocumented isn't illegal and then a bunch of room temperature dumbasses are trying to pile on about the morality of the whole situation.

I'll spell it out for you using small words because you seem to be a special kind of idiot. Fascists legalize their own bad behavior and hide behind the bastardized legal system to deflect any blame for their actions. Morals and laws only occasionally overlap.

Does the President get to use the Secret Service, because that seems unfair

The meme drag pedophiles so hard, you barely notice that it dehumanizes refugees to the same degree.

[โ€“] Virtvirt588@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I agree, this is basically an attack at many individuals.

Atleast, the meme mentions "sex offenders" which is more accurate than pedophilia.

[โ€“] kungfuratte@feddit.org 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Those were fun times โ€ฆ

[โ€“] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

they both are predators, but one is also an alien.

[โ€“] stray@pawb.social 1 points 3 months ago

The predator in the films is also an alien, so ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

[โ€“] sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.io 0 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Love it but let's just call them immigrants?

[โ€“] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago

It wouldn't be a reference to the film then. I don't think it's meant to be disparaging.

[โ€“] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 months ago

I do find it funny that we're all up in arms about people being called illegal immigrants in the US but nobody seems to notice that MOST of the world has closed borders, maximum stay durations for non-residents, etc.

I will preface the rest of the comment with the following disclaimer: While I do believe in immigration controls, I AM NOT TRYING TO JUSTIFY ICE.

Obviously what ICE is doing is fucked up on a level of its' own and nobody should be forcefully deported without due process EVER, much less to a concentration camp in a random ass country, but at the same time, I think we can still differentiate between legal and illegal immigrants? And legally speaking, it's got nothing to do with race. The right wants you to think that latinos == illegal immigrants == criminals whereas there are plenty of white illegal immigrants (I've had a family member migrate to the US a long time ago and overstay their welcome and we're literally mayo colored) and most latinos are legal immigrants and most illegal immigrants aren't criminals either.

Either "illegal immigrants" needs to lose its negative and racial connotations, or there needs to be another term for people who are in the country illegally, but aren't actually actively committing crimes or anything, because such people will always exist, and there should be clear cut paths for residency for them, as well as humane paths to exit the country if they don't want to become permanent residents or aren't eligible for some reason. And the distinction between legal and illegal/undocumented immigrants needs to exist because... There are records about the former, they pay taxes, etc, but usually the latter don't pay taxes. They for sure don't in my country, they're hired without a contract and paid in cash. They aren't part of censuses. They don't receive benefits they should be eligible to if they were here legally.

I'm not talking about refugees either, I'm talking about people who come here for work, get paid near minimum wage for hard work that a citizen/resident would get paid at least twice as much for and the employer would have to pay taxes for. They get a raw deal themselves, they mess up the labor market for everyone else (hire an Estonian for 2000โ‚ฌ a month contractual monthly wage, he only gets ~1660 and you have to pay a total of 2676 (because taxes exist on both sides of the employment contract) OR hire an undocumented Ukrainian, pay him 800-1000โ‚ฌ and give him and 3 of his mates an apartment to live in that you pay a total of 500โ‚ฌ a month for). I used Ukrainians for the example not because of war refugees, but because at least before the war, I knew about more than one small-time employer using undocumented Ukrainian laborers.

There absolutely are issues that come from illegal immigration and just ignoring their existence doesn't help anyone. Instead the goal should be to help them become legal immigrants. And as much as it sucks, fully open borders would suck for any moderately wealthy country. Capitalists are gonna capitalist and if you suddenly increase a country's workforce by a huge amount, well, salaries for everyone are going down. Immigration controls are, in fact, kind of an artificial scarcity on the workforce. Obviously skilled labor from abroad is beneficial for an economy, particularly experts that are hard to train, but you also don't want to suddenly increase your workforce by 10% a year or something because of open borders. Salaries for everyone will go down FAST.

Would it be in bad taste if I, an american citizen since birth, dressed up as mexican and helped?

[โ€“] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago

Yes, but entertaining, so we'll allow it.
