Hang on Ploopy, Ploopy hang on!

For anyone else wondering: It's some sort of ergonomic mouse thing

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago (3 children)

It looks incredibly uncomfortable, how is that ergonomic?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And why do you need a nipple pointer on a mouse? This is like a mouse within a mouse? They should add a track ball and a stylus.

Actually now that I think about it, having the option to choose which tool might appeal to some people. Like artists? CAD designers? But probably not for me.

So you can double clit

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's almost certainly a PCB, firmware, and case for a ThinkPad style pointing module. The ergonomics come from the freedom to put it down where you like or integrate it into an ergo-split keyboard. Ploopy is very good about open-sourcing the CAD, firmware, and BOM for their stuff.

The... are those buttons? have visible layer lines, that's a 3d print in the picture. I'd bet there's a repo already with the step files.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Yeah, most of their stuff has a 3D printed element. This is some cheeky marketing for a small company that, to my knowledge, has always done right by the maker community. I don't think this particular one has a public repository yet, but pretty much everything else does.

Not yet. This product was announced mere hours ago.

We'll be releasing the design files for the Bean on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 6:00 AM (here's a countdown timer for you).

Uploading doesn't mean making public. I'd prepare it in advance.

"Ergonomic" is a stretch

[–] Monument@piefed.world 11 points 3 days ago

With a name that horrible, each click had better sound like “plap” so you can plap, plap, plap your day away while flicking the bean.
