I love the part where the board member can't tell the journalist who sent him the AI-generated image for approval because he was following AI instructions changing out his email server and deleted all of his old email.

The artists were paid in this case but they didn't finish their work in time to have their art earn the grant. It sounds like the conditions of the grant being too rushed along with other miscommunications are the problem here. The AI is not used to avoid paying artists here, in a weird way it was kind of the opposite.
