Does anyone use rankine outside of university?

[–] the_tab_key@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (2 children)

No. You use Kelvin in everyday life?

[–] applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm an engineer so actually yes. I prefer a unit system that doesn't require magic constants to be functional.

You should flex in the Celsius people like the metric people enjoy doing to the imperialists. Lol

We used Kelvin for some stuff when I was an intern in a lab

I feel like 295C is a little more than catching on fire, maybe a little melting ontop of the initial fire.

It's actually far below a candle flame of ca. 1000°C.

It would be a cool flame from burning higher alcohols.

Yeah, I realized after doing the conversion to Fahrenheit it wasn't as high as I thought. Lol

21c is pretty chilly though.

I also feel that 68° F is still jacket territory.

[–] deathmetaldawgy@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

68 in the humidity is fucking hot. Like swim in the Mississippi hot

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I am from a very humid place in parts of the year and I still disagree.

[–] deathmetaldawgy@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

I’m talking Midwest in July August, summer nights being 68-70 and still so sweaty 😭 but like right now 68 is hoodie weather I agree

Yeah this is a bit too cool to be laying out in a hammock.

Unless you are in direct sun. Which would be terrible anyway. (Temperature measurements are taken in the shade for this reason.)

21C is too warm to keep a house at, so it can't be too chilly
