Frankly 8 isn't quite enough...

[–] its_kim_love@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah I find I need sleep every night, and not just the one time too.

[–] Captainautism@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I require 10hr to be optimal. 8hr is a bare minimum and if I get less than 8, do not count on me to do shit.

[–] solomonschuler@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

for me its 11-12 hours, 8 hours in the morning and another 3-4 hours in the afternoon

For me it's the same, except I'll usually squeeze in a 3-5 hour nap to freshen up in the evening.

I think I've been in bed for 24 hours at this point. Oh wait it's tuesday. Probably more like 48 hours.

2 times in my life where I've slept for more than a day: once was 32 hours, another was roughly 36. Best sleep ever.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'm good with 9. 10 is nice, but feels like doing anything useful after is pointless.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

12 is the sweet spot. Perfect balance.

[–] LGTM@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 month ago

I'm pretty sure I need 10 hours but I never get more than 4 💀

After 10 hours of sleep, thanks to melatonin:

[–] binarytobis@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Last week I accidentally put my melatonin in the “8am” slot of my pill divider for each day, thought I was dying or something with how incredibly tired I was while still not being able to sleep at night.

I feel bad for laughing at this comment, but I can just imagine how disorienting that must have been lol

For the first 18ish years, I couldn't seem to sleep enough. The next 30 years, 4 was about all I needed to function well. Now, in my mid-50's, I'm getting about 5-6 a night, with a rare 8-hour session here and there, and I feel great. Guess I'll die?

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 month ago

48 here, I can exist on 6 hours but the results aren't pretty. 8 is just right for me.

An extra 3 hours a day with no downsides would be lovely!

Quit showing off Jackson!

Brain development in the first 18 yrs require more sleep. Let your teenager sleep more!

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Which is one of the reasons why the super early start time for high school never made sense to me. I used to sleep through my first couple of periods.

[–] pomegranatefern@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Ah yes, but you see, if teenagers don't start school early, then how are they going to get out of school early enough to go to their minimum wage jobs after work? Think of the poor corporations!

(Yes, this is the real reason in the US. I believe it was also so teens could work on farms after school back when that was common. Also now some families that are struggling to make ends meet rely on the extra income from their teenagers' part-time jobs, which is a special extra level of dystopia.)
