There is so much stupid misinformation and misunderstanding around fluoride.

Can fluoride be dangerous to have in your water supply? Absolutely. In the 80s, “the decade of water”, UNICEF helped build wells all over the world in places without access to clean drinking water. In some places they did not dig the wells deep enough, and in some places there is a high amount of natural fluoride in the ground’s surface layers. As a result, people drinking from those wells got legitimate fluoridosis. Children grew majorly deformed bones, and it straight up killed some the elderly. Its a legitimately dangerous thing for the body in high concentrations.

That said, the level of fluoride in tap water is infinitely lower than even being anywhere near that kind of danger. The old standard level that was used up until the early 2000s was only lowered because people got fluoride spots in their teeth. I have some from when I was a kid. The medical difference between having fluoride spots versus actual fluoridosis is like the difference between having a sore throat and dying of asphyxiation. Fluoride is absolutely beneficial. I may have a couple fluoride spots, but Ive also never had a cavity filled. The only cavity I have had was in a wisdom tooth, which did not have as much fluoride exposure when I grew it later in life

That's the whole (or maybe just one) point AFAIK of the children toothpaste, it has much less flouride.
