The conservatives are BC's right-wing nutter party, have been for a long time. The BC Liberals were the 'regular' right-wing party, which named themselves "Liberals" specifically to try and deceive/confuse new immigrant voters into thinking them the same as the Federal Liberals -- Christy Clark, when she first came to power in the BC Liberals, toyed with changing the name due to a temporary popularity dip in the Fed Liberals, but that talk ended once the Federal liberals "came back".
Christy Clark's BC Liberals completely ruined the party brand, due to the rampant corruption that was exposed. The Cullen Commission, an investigation into Money Laundering under the BC Liberals watch, was brutal. Report showed things like Money Laundering task forces getting disbanned by Rich Coleman, a BC Liberal Minister, after they discovered large-scale money laundering in areas such as the Casino industry. The task force, setup to find evidence of crimes, was disbanned by the BC Liberals for finding evidence of crimes, and no follow up actions were taken. The Cullen Commission's conclusion on the matter also, essentially, said "There were so many people involved in these schemes, that it'd take too much money, and too much time, to prosecute everyone, so we're just giving everyone a pass for what we uncovered". There were even more red flags beyond that massively damaging report, things like Christy taking a $50k/year car "allowance" from the party, funded by (typically) real estate businesses/interests, who were also heavily entwined in the money laundering corruption stuff.
Christy Clark's destruction of that party's brand, made them unelectable for two cycles, by large margins. So they killed the party, and tried to jump in with the even further right-wing nutters in the Conservative party. The "moderate" right became so toxic due to its scandals/corruption, that they opted to go for a 2 party setup where they'd eventually get in as "the other guys". Canadian media still often trots out Christy Clark as though she's some sort of star BC Politician, rather than the symbol of corruption and ineptitude that's lead to a pretty shit political scene in BC. BC's current choices are the very left-wing NDP, the even more left-wing and untested Green, or the Right-wing nuts/corrupt Conservatives. Chances are the conservatives get in next time, for lack of any other practical option to tell Eby "You're fucking up, we want someone new/a more centrist approach".
They aren't 'moving' or being 'pulled' right. They are the right-wing, the far right-wing, diluted slightly by a bunch of corrupt moderate-right wing cast-a-ways.
