They were gonna lay those people off regardless of whether or not they were using AI. The only difference is that if they say it was because of AI the line will go up and they will make more money. If anything, the extra money they make just by saying it was because of AI could easily pay the salary of those being layed off. It's basically a magic word that gives them free money. I don't even think wallstreet is even in on the hype and are just pumping it as high as they can so they can make out like bandits when shit hits the fan.
