"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

The datacenter building dipshits can't even limit themselves to screwing over humans now? They gotta go after the animals?

On a related note... Is Nashville Zoo one of the good ones that actually helps with conservation and education, or one of the shitty zoos that just mistreat and exploit their animals? Hard to keep track anymore.

Here's what I know about their conservation program:

Schwartz said he’s especially worried about noises from the data center affecting the breeding of clouded leopards, a vulnerable species that the zoo is working to conserve.

Why are these data centers not taking over the many dead malls across the US? I can think of a dozen in my state alone. Or abandoned theme parks? I know they're just trying to avoid incorporated places and anywhere people actually care about environmental effects but this is ridiculous.

Mall real estate is expensive. Plus I bet it costs more to remove the crap on the land already. Undeveloped land is usually cheaper.

Of course, hurting animals garners support, but not hurting people.

Child labor laws in this country had to be argued that we already had laws against animal abuse. Seems to track.

Lol. We still have states that allow child brides.
