Hey, boss, I realize 90% of our unit prices are already pure profit, but I reckon we can get that to 95% by blaming an increase in chip prices. Actually, you know what, our users are already locked in an fucked if they don't buy our shit, so let's go for it.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

Great idea underling... after you are done applying my genius strategy that I just came up with all by myself, lay yourself off so we can hit the quaterly targets and I can buy that third yatch with my bonus

[–] GalacticRobot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Is Apple's profit margins on hardware 90%? I thought it was still high but around 40%.

[–] CaptPretentious@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

They're not 90%, yet... But just raise the prices and pass the blame has been in fashion pretty hard for the last 6 years.

[–] GalacticRobot@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

They won't ever get to 90%, they have slowly moved up from 35-40% over 20 years.

They’re not 90%

Did you know the age verificatiion that apple did within the UK wasn't mandatory for them? They chose to go out of their way to kiss ass.

the online safety act would be undone within 1 day if apple sent a message to every UK-dwelling apple device warning them that their apple devices won't work within a week if they don't petition their government to undo that bullshit totalitarian surveillance and censorship bullshit

by the way...apple can just decide to make your apple products not work anymore. They can also remove any app from your apple products they don't want you to have. 1 update is all it takes.

The fact that apple don't feel they can do this or a good thing. We don't want companies who think they are more powerful than governments. It would be preferential if governments were doing things in our interest all the time, but it's a start.

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 5 points 14 hours ago

In this case, when apple made people dox themselves to be able to use their apple devices in the UK, it was corporations and governments working together to fuck all of us

and remember! It's not about protecting kids, it never was and it isn't now.

Pretty much what they did in China as well. Google, back when they had a backbone, decided to leave instead, and Apple was like, "How can we censor ourselves better for you?"

[–] blazeknave@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

You ever see the doc on how Apple built and modernized China's entire technology manufacturing economy in a way that had they not, we'd probably not see them as nearly the competition they are?

Apple to raise prices

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah, nice, from unaffordable to unaffordable.

[–] iconic_admin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Right? Oh man a fully loaded Mac book is going from $10k to $12k. Man now I’ll never buy one.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

For me it's the software I can't stand, but yeah now I'll never buy the hardware either.

When they released the M5 MacBook Pro, it was the same week that they introduced the Neo. I expected the MBP price to go up and I'd been planning to buy a new computer this year, so I was mad at Sam Altman for fucking the supply chain. But the Neo happened the same week and they obviously had a price-point planned. They couldn't raise prices on any of them or the Neo's marketing splash would be sullied by price increases. I couldn't believe my luck.

I got my new MBP at last year's pricing because I knew it wouldn't last. Lucky me.

If people want Apple to continue to put out different models of products that do the same thing as the previous models then they can't expect Apple to float the cost of rising chip prices. Same with phone company who offer all those discounted and 'free' phone promos. They need to up the cost of their plans now to compensate for the more expensive phones. Why should they have to eat the cost increases? If you don't like it then switch to the one or two other phone companies on the market but they are doing the same thing.

Right now might be a good time for Apple to inject advertisements into their iOS. That would give Apple a buffer if chip prices continue to go up. It would also be a good idea for Apple to increase the cost of cloud storage.

I'm tired of everyone complaining they have no money because they have been getting hit with constant price increases nonstop for the last 6 years while wages have remained the same. Like, oh sorry inflation reportedly went up about 30% in the last 6 years and your wages haven't gone up anywhere near that..

Now all of a sudden it's the government and corporations fault you can't go on vacation, buy a house, have kids, buy Starbucks, buy groceries, afford healthcare, pay rent. America is the land of hard work. If you want these things then maybe you should get a second job instead of working your 8:30-5pm job Monday through Friday. Oh let me guess you lazy people are made your company won't pay you to eat lunch now. Like you have a whole 30 minutes to do almost anything you want. Why would the company pay you if you're not working? Just so you feel appreciated? Go have your mommy coddle you.

Nobody ever said people shouldn't struggle to exist. If you're that burnt out and mad then go get on antidepressants like every other American. Maybe you should have reduced your stress, slept more and been more active just like your doctor told you. The less disposable income people have, the more money we can give to those in power.

The gold decorations and new ballroom at the White House isn't going to pay for itself. The $630 billion Iran war isn't going to pay for itself. There are people that those in power believe need to die and they can't go kill them if their citizens want to be able to buy a house, have a family and go on vacation every year.

If the US was smart they would get rid of social security and Medicare. Let's face it, senior citizens are a burden to corporate America. There is no need to have people not working and living off their savings or retirement accounts. Send them to the other side early, increase taxes on inheritances and gut more government regulation companies to save money. Just for the record, I'm bored and trying to avoid working today. My comment is for entertainment purposes only.

I thought Tim Apple retired

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 2 points 15 hours ago

Yeah odd. I would have expected every single newsroom and stock photo site to have deleted all photos of him immediately.

[–] Beetschnapps@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

Nah he started sucking trumps dick and told the gay community to get fucked. He’s a prime example of “fuck you I got mine”.
