Those "epic deals" are mostly scam. I've looked at different stuff, and e.g. the beyerdynamic Amiron was supposedly 30% off or sth. but that was just the normal price for months. Same with TVs, just the normal price that sits well below MSRP suddenly praised as "Prime Day Deal". Genuine reductions are usually merely ~5% and for e.g. blu-rays and stuff.

The only two things that were truly cheaper I found was a Brother printer, which went from 250€ to 200€, as well as a 9k BTU Monoblock AC (300 -> 230. Completely sold out within a day). All the other things were not worth it or just lies.

I've been saving my cart for a few weeks. Checking the price history most of my reduced items were at their lowest, a few were a few bucks lower than current low. Overall I saved $45 on 6 items.

Most items are tracked here, you can check the price history and see if it's currently a good deal. You can also set up alerts for when the price drops.

Dont really know if we need to make fun of peoples appearance just for the sake of it even if their photo was used by "the evil megacorp" in an ad. better to keep this contained to facebook and reddit.

Am I missing something or are you making fun of this person in your head and assuming that's what's going on? I just saw "lady opens box, tiny exploited people inside".

I'm sure I'm just missing a bit of media or meme context. Can you explain?

[–] Quatlicopatlix@feddit.org 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The characters are from attack on titan, there are multiple scenes where titans ( big creatures with a lot of times very weird facial expressions) look down on the humanss and then proceed killing them. I think this meme references that. I watched some of the show years ago so this would be my interpretation of the meme so yea making fun of the women on the top as the titan creatures look very hideous?

[–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I just went to check it out. I don't think she looks anything like a titan, but Amazon sure fits the description of a titan. I still think the interpretation that the meme is making fun of this woman's looks, is severely reaching, but thank you very much for the explanation.

[–] viertesauge@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How is it reaching? The woman is in the position where a titan would be. So all this "meme" says to me is: "look this person looks like a titan".

[–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because it is an ad that represents Amazon and Amazon acts like a titan? That's not even her smile. It's the grimace the ad agency put on her. That's amazon's smile.

How does she look like a Titan? Titans don't have anything resembling her features.

Im fairly certain the person is supposed to be a customer opening a package that was delivered by amazon. Not really sure what you are getting at here. As for her face, yes they probably put makeup on her and did her hair, but I dont think they put in the effort to edit her teeth for a short video ad. (I admit that I could be wrong though. I dont know anything about video editing and from this screenshot its not possible to tell).

And as the other user already pointed out: there are tons of scenes where we see the titans looking down and showing their teeth from the perspective of humans. Many even in a similar angle. Im very sure that the person who made this meme was reminded of this when viewing the ad. Thats why we have characters from AOT in the second panel. And thats why my interpretation is that whoever made the meme wanted to say that that the woman reminds them of a titan. We can disagree on this if you want to but please dont put words in my mouth saying that im subconsiously(if thats what you meant?) making fun of someone, when im pointing out that its not great to say someone looks like a titan(again my interpretation and we can disagree on this but i think i gave enough reasons to justify how i understood the meme).

[–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Oh I completely agree with you that they are equating her to a titan.

I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I'm trying to put words on your mouth. I was simply disagreeing that the meme says "she's a titan because she is ugly/looks funny/etc" or "making fun of her looks" but rather that it's saying she's like a titan because she is staring down from above as the representative of an entity that consumes people. Obviously she is supposed to be a titan.

Like if I stomp around and someone equates me to an elephant that's not "making fun of me for my looks".

Wouldn't this meme have been funny whether it was a women in the photo or a conventionally attractive man doing a very saccharine smile?

[–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't understand what you are asking. Can you please explain?

[–] espurr@sopuli.xyz 1 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

That we are pointing out that the lady in the meme may not be perceived as conventionally attractive, when we don't really need to.

Maybe we all feel collectively uncomfortable that we recognise that she is conventionally unattractive and the unfairness of life which leads to feeling cognitive dissonance, and end up expressing it as concern for her or outrage that she's being used in a meme? When the crux of the joke may not really be her appearance, but rather the premise, someone peering into a box with a saccharine smile, photographed from an awkward angle inside the box itself.

I think the meme is funny regardless of who is portrayed as the 'titan'.

[–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Thank you for putting in the time to so thoroughly explain what you meant. I agree completely. This meme would hit the same no matter who it was. And really, if it was a conventionally handsome man, it would likely be more "making fun of his appearance" than it is with this lady. A dude with a chiseled jawline looks way more like a titan physically, and therefore his looks would be more part of the joke.

Yeah this post is kinda gross

The photo feels like slop though? so hopefully it's at least not a specific person. Doesn't make it okay

First I am hearing of prime day. Don't think there is anything I really want from Amazon. Should use that £10 amazon voucher I got from my last job at some point.
