And Americans will believe them and keep voting red

[–] minkymunkey_7_7@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

The lies never stopped in American history. From the very first day it was a lie in the creation declaration that "all men are created equal" America is just a nation of lies and will forever be so.

[–] Jumi@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

They still celebrate Thanksgiving like it's not the beginning of a massive century-long genocide.

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 49 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

This is a lie, of course.

There was no debate or vote on any funding bill.

Mike Johnson literally just shut the government down to prevent the release of the Epstein files. Anyone that tells you otherwise is lying to you, full stop.

[–] notarobot@lemmy.zip 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I do not know enough about us politics so I'll ask. Would shutting down the government to prevent the release of the Epstein files be a very stupid choice because it's basically a short term solution? Surely there are other corrupt ways to get out of these ones, like falsifying them

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

I don't think they have a plan.

I do think that Johnson is being extorted by Trump / Putin or funded by the Heritage Foundation to stonewall the release at all costs.

[–] MML@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

I would still consider the possibility he did it only due to a bribe, not enough intelligence to lead, DEI hire.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Sadly trumps cult will believe this and react accordingly.

Nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich fear for their lives

[–] GaMEChld@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Ah yes, the radical left that has mysterious control of 3 branches of government even in the minority. Is it possible to learn these powers?

[–] kadu@scribe.disroot.org 7 points 1 day ago

We have more genders so its easier to overrun the government

[–] ieGod@lemmy.zip 2 points 23 hours ago

Is it possible to learn these powers?

Not from an ethical person.

[–] elbiter@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So, an official government channel is saying it's something else's fault.

Very mature and very professional.

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Did you expect mature and professional?

If so, I have some land in the Bahamas you might be interested in.

From elsewhere:

The Hatch Act, a federal law passed in 1939, limits certain political activities of federal employees, as well as some state, D.C., and local government employees who work in connection with federally funded programs. The law’s purposes are to ensure that federal programs are administered in a nonpartisan fashion, to protect federal employees from political coercion in the workplace, and to ensure that federal employees are advanced based on merit and not based on political affiliation.

How to File a Hatch Act Complaint: https://osc.gov/Services/Pages/HatchAct-FileComplaint.aspx

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Those complaints are going straight into a shredder.

This administration has been blatant about putting right wing allies into major positions of power in the government and basing decision-making on partisan politics in every branch, at every level of government.

Those that play ball are promoted, those that don't, like the CDC director, get replaced.

[–] neuracnu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Rule one for fighting tyranny: do not obey in advance.

Not taking advantage of the legal protections at our disposal is to obey in advance.

Despair is easy. Fighting back is hard.

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 hours ago

Hard agree.

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

I say make them and it then, keep sending

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Who is going to read it and would they actually do anything?

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

To this effect hasn't most of the UN nations voted to recognize Gaza as a nation state but because America is funding the war who gives a shit

[–] JeremyHuntQW12@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The GOP has a majority in both houses...

[–] Dogiedog64@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Of course they do! But the Woke Left™️ is somehow infinitely weak and powerless, while also being endlessly insurmountably strong, and this cognitive dissonance is why Fascist rhetoric is so effective. It allows them to feel permanently powerful and in control, while ALSO raging endlessly against whatever Out-Group they hate somehow controlling everything behind the scenes, spawning an infinite cycle of hatred, vitriol, and violence that only ever ends in blood.

It's bullshit, plain and simple, but it's terrifyingly effective bullshit, because you cannot rationally convince them that it IS bullshit. It relies explicitly on whoever believes it being willing to purposely ignore reality in favor of vibes and rage, which modern Republican voters have been purpose bred (metaphorically) for over the last 50 years through FOX News.

[–] ghosthacked@lemmy.wtf 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

They're basically telegraphing their next move. Anyone associated with left wing ideology might as well go to underground ops now.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Or start exercising their second amendment rights.

[–] kadu@scribe.disroot.org 4 points 1 day ago

And non-US leftists should really reconsider using US technology that logs their data.

[–] Tartas1995@discuss.tchncs.de 190 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That a government site can be used so obviously for partisan propaganda is wild.

[–] Nunar@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

It's currently breaking the law. The Hatch Act is supposed to prevent federal employees from participating in politics like this. Not that they care. Someone else in the thread mentioned repairing violations of the Hatch Act.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 106 points 2 days ago (9 children)

You ain't seen nothin yet! Go and study 1930s Germany. Before the war. Even before the invasions of other countries. Look how they used their government to cement nazi propaganda.

Now look at the USA today. Kinda feels like 1935 Germany I'd say. If that alone doesn't scare the shit out of you, then I redirect your attention back to studying, because you clearly missed everything to be gained by studying history.

History never repeats itself, but it often rhymes.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We’re farther along masked men are “disappearing” people and they can’t be found. I’d say we’re moving much faster

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago

Hopefully that means fascism crashes and burns twice as fast.

Remember, the nazis died because Hitler shot himself. But he only shot himself because the whole world was ready to do it for him. We put enough pressure that it was the only outcome either way.

Lets take that fight to the GOP. Not trump, the GOP. Because if trump is gone, some other pedophile asshole would be happy to take his place. Remember, as much as it feels like he is, trump isn't THE problem. He's just the current face of the problem.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago

Exactly this. Everyone jumps to Germany invading countries and the Holocaust, but it all started with propaganda and control.

I think most people didn’t believe this piece of treasonous shit would win after helping to foment the January 6 insurrection. And yet here we are.

There’s also this fundamental drive to roll back women’s lib bubbling beneath the surface which, apparently, is popular with young men.

Goodness.

Further down:

“God blessed us with this great nation, and together, we can increase self-sufficiency and empower Americans to climb the economic ladder toward a brighter future.”

- Secretary Scott Turner

Not much better if you ask me.

And OP wasn't kidding, the very same text comes up again as a pop-up after a while. And again whatever internal link I click. I have no words.
