Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

What do you mean "it's not clear"? It was very fucking clear i think.

[–] TachyonTele_Esq@piefed.social 69 points 3 weeks ago

I bet if there was more estrogen in our water, they would understand it.

[–] GalacticSushi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 62 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Estrogen is a category of sex hormones. Would've been more clear if they specified estradiol.

But maybe the voters wanted a spectrum, or specific varieties to be determined by local need/availability?

[–] flamingos@feddit.uk 30 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

It's because they misspelt oestrogen, the govt wasn't sure what they were talking about.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Oestrogen is the german word for estrogen though?

[–] EyIchFragDochNur@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Oestrogen is the British word for American estrogen.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 24 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Instructions unclear. Took oestrogen by accident and now can't stop speaking in a British accent.

[–] GalacticSushi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 3 weeks ago

Oi bruv you got loicense for dat oestrogen? Fink it fru, mate, this is TERF island innit?

[–] EyIchFragDochNur@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (3 children)

That's a feature, not a bug. But don't try Östrogen.

That's pretty sensible.

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 56 points 3 weeks ago

That is objectively the incorrect rejection reason

[–] isleepinahammock@lemmy.blahaj.zone 54 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Unfortunately, this is not a practical possibility. Estrogen, testosterone, and other such hormones have poor water solubility. It's also less stable in water. There's a reason injections use bases such as MCT or castor oil. If they could be compounded in water, they would. People sometimes are allergic to carrier oils, so eliminating them entirely is preferable if possible.

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 55 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

they are the uk gouvernment
just make a law that says estrogen must have a high water solubility and that the laws of physics dont apply inside theur borders

[–] maya@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago

Sure, they have poor water solubility, around 3mg/L, but if I drink 2L of water and then take a bath ib the estrogen water, I'm pretty sure that I'd start growing tiddies teehee

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 41 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

compromise, cold water tap has estrogen, hot water tap has testosterone.

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 17 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

But all tap is cold, its only hot because of the water heater.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 29 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

the heater adds the testosterone

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 24 points 3 weeks ago

Testosterone is stored in the heat tank

A real Ranma situation

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 3 weeks ago

mix them for Gender Fluid

You can’t just say “perchance”

[–] davidagain@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's the UK, of course you can, methinks.

It's very clear what the petition wants the UK government to do. What a bunch of corrupt liars

[–] Pirky@piefed.world 22 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This would ensure the transfem community stays adequately hydrated.

[–] DokPsy@lemmy.world 14 points 3 weeks ago

Look, we all know none of us neuro spicy are getting enough water so if this helps a small percentage, I say do it. Frogs be damned

you think this is a trans led petition.

but the pharmaceutical industry is behind this

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 17 points 2 weeks ago

it's not clear what this petition is asking the UK government or parliament to do

i mean it's pretty obvious in the title....

[–] JennyLaFae@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I just want to pick up a case of estrogen drinks from the store like they're Blahaj Edition Monsters.

[–] thiscat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] JennyLaFae@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 3 weeks ago

I should mix up a batch and go chumming for girlfriends

[–] aBundleOfFerrets@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

Oral estrogen causes liver damage

Yes but so does toxic masculinity. Free bottled water for transmascs, and it would still be a net savings.

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

[–] erinmeow@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] cecinestpasunecommunication@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

That's so sad. Would you like some western trans neuroprogramming music?

I think we can put it in some Rachmaninoff or something to bridge the culture gap.
