That awkward moment you find out your mom is a Facebook Karen

My mom got into one of these arguments on some controversy in my hometown. One guy commented that she was so dumb that her family tree resembled a tumbleweed. She took that as meaning her family had no roots so she commented back on how her family had been in the town for generations...

I would never fail to bring that up at family gatherings

While shopping my dad once said we should get an electric knife sharpener to which my mum replied “but we don’t have an electric knife”. The whole checkout line turned and looked at her like ‘the fuck did she just say?’

It gets brought up anytime there’s a roast to carve lol

I think your mom was treated unfairly for that. electric knives cannot be sharpened in the typical manner and it's fair to assume you need a special machine for it.

also, who tf buys an electric sharpener for a regular knife. that's dumb

Someone who can’t sharpen a knife manually for medical reasons.

It’s all in good spirit and she’s no slouch teasing any of us over dumb shit

there must be (I mean, there obviously are, I don't know everything) electric sharpener types that I am not aware of. The only electric knife sharpeners that I know of are basically the same as a common manual pull through version, at least as far as the user is concerned

I am 100% in the camp of "weird products exist, as they should, for people for whom the regular version isn't usable due to disabilities or similar reasons" - I'm just not aware of a product in this case.

The electric sharpner likely require less force to use and they look operable with a single hand unlike the normal one

Poorly made blades that need an initial edge ground into them are good candidates, after that it's 100% manual though to get a real edge. It save a a good bit of time

To be fair, electric knives are a thing. I think they are called carvers or something tho? But yea, those family stories are the best.

The internet has no parents

I am pretty sure Al Gore is the internet's father.

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He kinda was. Unfortunately enough Americans voted for some dipshit that the Supreme Court handed the Presidency to the dipshit. Internet Daddy never got to be President. So the internet became a shithole dominated by tech bros.

Of course that pales in comparison to the problems the dipshit caused in the Middle East, and even bigger problems to come with global warming.

[–] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

I remember that election, first one I could vote in. I was so gung ho to vote third party, fuck these two awful parties.

But then, that dipshit was put up repubs, and yea I voted blue then and in every presidential since. Fuck this place.

I read this as "Ae Eye Gore" and thought you meant the internet was reared by computer-generated content on rotten

Said the blue checkmarked account on the Fascist social media platform and child pornography generator known as X.com

Ha, wait til she shows him one day that the Internet also has no sons

Turns out, mom was on the usenet alt.religion groups in the 90s. It's just a recurring pattern.
