I do love being on hold for an hour only to speak part of a sentence to someone who immediately transfers me to another 1 hour hold queue and/or hang up on me.

And if you write in a complaint they email you a phone number to call with, you guessed it, a 1+ hr hold queue. And nobody has last names, phone numbers, email addresses, or accountability of any kind.

I was just in customer support for like an hour. Most of that was on hold, and 15% was navigating through their tree and AI bot.

Unsurprising.

I’ve known many folks who got laid off from Rogers in favour of cheap overseas labour and AI integration.

Rogers idea of AI is a shitty chatbot and Abroad Indians. (AI)

That is how it is going to go until AI is good enough to replace the over seas people, we are almost there. Once Canada is all fibred up except tech people lose their jobs in place of contractors and getting your modem from the store and you will be expected to plug it in and then call the AI to have your modem set to whatever unreasonably high priced speed.

It is expensive to lay the fibre now so companies are not rushing to do it fast but once it becomes cheaper to have less people employed the fibre will be run faster. Just remember though you are not the customer, you are the product to these telcos your data is very valuable.
