"Seen any good movies recently?"

"Just watched one, but I can't remember the title. It is starring Dwayne Johnson... with him in the jungle... actually it wasn't all that good though."

"Do you know how little you just narrowed that down?"

I've made these movies a collection on my Plex/Jellyfin server. There's also The Rundown and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

Welcome to the Jungle movie collection poster

The Wonderful World of Rockslop.

I'm not going to pretend I don't find a few of these fun, but they're mostly bad movies in my opinion.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 3 points 1 day ago

They aren't bad really, they are aggressively mediocre.

[–] Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I adore this, I'm not really a fan of the movies but now I kind of have to do it too.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

The rundown is one of my favs. Love sws.

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He's called "The Rock" because he has the acting talent and range of a rock.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Was much better before in The Rundown with Sean William Scott. One of my favs.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 2 points 1 day ago

And his finishing move "The People's Elbow" was a nod to his socialist roots, fighting in the jungles of Cuba

It all started with The Rundown. Before that, it was all desert, but I guess he didn't like the sand.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Of course not. Don't you know where sand comes from?

Rocks.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Rock knows. He's the one that crushed them into sand. It's how he earned his name.

The Boulder feels conflicted.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah, Riddick was pretty cool.

[–] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

me when they say the rock had no range

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 9 points 1 day ago

Are there any jungle scenes in live action Moana?

Walking Tall is another one.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean, once you get to the jungle you can just as well film 5 movies instead of one. If you organize it well you can reuse locations and minimize travel on site. Film scenes for all 5 movies in location one, move to location 2 and so on. You just have to keep track of the wardrobe changes.

The original Tarzan movies made use of footage from "Trader Horn" and other safari movies, as well as their own zoo.

Oliver Laric was on to something

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 1 points 1 day ago

🤯 how did I never notice that before?

[–] HornyElf@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

And he is also wearing the same shirt in all of them

[–] Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago

That one year, the rock didn’t leave the jungle and just pushed out movies

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He certainly doesn't like to be typecast.

I actually sat through The Smashing Machine recently because I heard they'd actually got him to act in it, like Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems. This was a complete lie, and it turned out they'd just put a wig on him.

I liked The Smashing Machine enough, but it was most definitely despite the rock, not because of him.

I do this with the Avatar movies, but it’s:

  • Avatar “Ferngully”

  • Avatar: The Way of Water “Ferngully”

  • Avatar: Fire and Ash “Ferngully”

I have a friend who does something similar; it goes:

  • Avatar “Dances with Wolves”

  • Avatar: The Way of Water “Dances with Wolves”

  • Avatar: Fire and Ash “Dances with Wolves”

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

I questioned why they didn't make a live-action/cgi hybrid of Pocahontas like they did for so many other Disney movies.

Then I realized that that's basically Avatar.
