Hey guys I have just discovered a mechanical device with two wheels that you can use to get anywhere petrol free!

tech bros have entered the classical era

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Please don't mention anything even remotely related to Civ on this site for the next few days. I have too much to do.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You sure you don't want one more turn at this?

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

My apologies, I've accidentally seen the sun rise a few times while playing civ

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Thankfully for me I find the game too confusing and boring to be enjoyable, because liking it seems like a really bad idea if you have an addictive personality.

[–] towniepeter@thelemmy.club 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

If you are saying you played Civ and never found yourself saying "just one more turn", you might just come out and admit you are a bot account.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Nope, can't say I've ever said that. I'm sorry but the game is way too complicated and my ADHD is way too severe. Couldn't even make it past the tutorial.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Truly. When playing Civ I lose all sense of time, and even when in the mindset of 'I'm gonna save and quit' there's always one more quick thing to do first. I have to police myself hard because I will lose at least a week if I get into a campaign. I'm not even really a gamer. Games I enjoy I have a difficult time playing for more than a twenty minute spurt. But Civ... Civ is like fucking hypnotoad, it overrides all other feelings and desires. If you find it confusing and boring just go with that and you'll be much better off.

Stellaris is the same way. When I got hooked I played 40 hours by Thursday. And I was in college, so I realized then I needed to be careful

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

That's funny. Stellaris is the one game I have specifically forbidden myself from playing, so it's good to get confirmation that it would ruin my life!

But I really wanna try that Star Trek mod.

[–] Anti_Iridium@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

It's definitely an enjoyable experience though, I have somehow managed to keep it at 220 hours. I will say after the first couple of games I started adding a titan (an endgame ship that you can build a handful of) to my new save files because I'm here for fun.

Might have to try some of the mods, and lose even more of my life to it!

[–] Einskjaldi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There are a lot of neat mods that really amp it up.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

I don't think I've ever used a mod with any of them. Do you have any recommendations, for when I'm less busy?

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Silly... the concerpt of a underground fridge probably predates the word cellar.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 7 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

It might even predate words

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 18 hours ago

The smart apes know.

[–] tedd_deireadh@lemmy.world 159 points 2 days ago (9 children)

Is that "cellar" built on the beach? I'm no structural engineer, but that don't sound right.

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Maybe he needs further education with the story of the 3 little pigs.

Put some hot coals, a bucket of water, and birch whisks in there and baby, you got a sauna going!

[–] bandanawearingbanana@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

Underground? That's fun way to suffocate sure.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (9 children)

Keep in mind that the stick and cardboard houses those people live in usually have a "crawlspace", nothing more.

Tech bros invent cellars but worse.

That's not cold enough to preserve food.

Below 40F is needed to preserve food. Ideally, just above freezing, if you don't want to freeze it. I keep my fridge at 35F.

[–] Hupf@feddit.org 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If only there was a commonly accepted temperature scale that makes it easier to see what's just above freezing and what isn't.

[–] LarsIsCool@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

4.44°C and 1.67°C

Lmao apocalypse proof, except he built it on the beach so even a little bit of global warming would flood it right away. Apocalypse proof, except for that one actual apocalypse we have confirmed is in progress right now.
