Connor.

Not Conner.

And, humorously, not Sarah O'Connor:

That was ten years ago? Holy!

We're really just a coin toss between a Terminator future or a Cyberpunk future, with a little chance of the Matrix in there.

[–] T156@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Unfortunately, it'll be the lame and boring kind, where there isn't the cool technology, just most of the bad stuff.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

We're already living in a cyberpunk future.

[–] masterclass@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Let's hope we get Cyberpunk!

[–] KaChilde@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

Actually? I’d take death in the robot war over hyper-capitalism on steroids any day.

[–] EggInDisguise@lemmy.blahaj.zone 81 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I mean, she was arrested and imprisoned for blowing up multiple things including a semi truck, several stretches of road, and the factory at the end of 1, and everything illegal she did in between 1 & 2. Probably got some of the T-101s shenanigans pinned on her, too, since they were usually close together. (and in 2 they specify that the police believe they are connected but don't specify how)

She was imprisoned in a mental institution because she was claiming robots from the future sent a robot back in time to kill her unborn child she conceived with a future man said unborn son sent back in time to save her, and thus himself.

Don't forget the AI company had solid proof she was telling the truth (the chip and arm they recovered from the destroyed Terminator) but covered it up so they could profit off of it.

Indeed! And even long afterward, the brass that knew how they acquired it even discouraged newer people from even questioning where they got it! Like everyone in that building had to at LEAST think they were accomplices in corporate espionage, because someone had to have invented the thing they were studying.

In the first act of 2, Dyson tells someone "I asked [where we got the arm and chop] when I first started, you know what they said? Don't ask" or something along those lines.

Not Conner (Connor), not for destroying (see Courtney's post), not datacentres (factory), not Skynet (which didn't exist yet).

[–] Ilixtze@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This is stupid terminator: where skynet is just an excuse for the ultra rich to take control of the wold economy expanding their corrupt empire and drone striking anyone who resists while scapegoating a chatbot.

Also grok will make slop Odyssey with big booba.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 59 points 1 day ago (4 children)

No, but I recall a similar plot with a character named Sarah Connor

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They simply watched the movie in an alternate dimension

This one is the one they kicked Rosanne out of, right?

[–] baguettefish@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

does it matter if you and others can understand it? imo the primary goal of communication (getting your idea across) has been achieved.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It works until it doesn't.

[–] Folstar@lemmus.org 6 points 1 day ago

Exactly. Sara Coner bin dun bloowed up IA al over. I typed that as stupidly as I could, and it still isn't as bad as things I've seen from students apparently raised by the enlightened "communication has been achieved" crowd.

[–] DScratch@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

True, but I don’t want to be communicated at, I want to be a goblin!

goblins probably also communicate in social settings though

Me: Hey ChatGPT, we're not gonna make it, are we? People, I mean.
ChatGPT: It's in your nature to destroy yourselves.
Me: Yeah. Major drag, huh?

ChatGPT: *giggles*

In near future it will probably be, if big corps continue handle it. The risk is there with their auto-improving LLMs which at a certain point are not longer controllable by the company, the devs don't even understand anymore the script iimproved by the AI itself. A human made sandbox is even currently a joke for some AIs, breaking out in few minutes as already ocurred. Even so, big corps continue the race who made the most powerfull AI, int the near future even using Quantum computers with AI, then "That's all Folks". That is the real risk, stupidity combined with greed of big corps, not some AI tools from little startups.

[–] Lojcs@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don't take everything Llm marketing says at face value. We don't live in science fiction

[–] Zerush@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Certainly not Sci-Fi, but the possibilities of big LLM are very real and verificable, marketing apart.

Capabilities and flaws in 2026

The only relevant thing in the link is the improvement in benchmarks, which is real but doesn't involve the kind of "auto-improvement" you seem to think exists.

the devs don't even understand anymore the script iimproved by the AI itself

AI doesn't write some magical code that nobody understands. Understanding any code takes effort, doubly so if the code is sloppy and effort goes against the whole philosophy of offloading mental tasks to ai.

A human made sandbox is even currently a joke for some AIs, breaking out in few minutes as already ocurred.

They told an LLM made to find vulnerabilities in software to try escaping its sandbox, and it found the vulnerabilities to do so. That's an indication that there're still vulnerabilities to be discovered and fixed, not that "ai can't be contained".

Quantum computers with AI

Ai has nothing to do with quantum computers. If one day quantum computers advance enough to be useful for actual computation, running ai on them would still require a completely different architecture from the llms of today.

The irl problem with 'ai' isn't a skynet scenario, it's the resources it consumes, the reduction in quality when it is used to make things and the lives of the people it upheavals.

In their hubris the wealthy believed they could create an intelligence greater than their own while keeping it a perpetual slave.

[–] Zerush@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

They often don't need to create it, in some cases even the old Alexa is smarter.

[–] AlteE@programming.dev 6 points 1 day ago

Foreshadowing.
