The airport is a lawless place. 7AM? Have a beer. Tired? Sleep on the floor. Hungry? Chips now cost $17.

You can talk all the shit you want about MIA as the airport logistics and operations are trash, but the $6 empanadas at Versailles, la carreta on gate D37 and a couple of standalone empanada places are the best food at MIA by leaps and bounds, and way safer than any of the sushi, sandwich other of the microwave to table restaurants there.

Source : used this airport for +20 years living here.

Who gives a shit what you eat at an airport? That's probably the most utilitarian food imaginable. Plus, because of all the unknown international cross-contamination, there's also the major "at your own risk" consideration. Complaining, judging, negging, or memeing about who eats what at the airport in any sort of serious capacity when it doesn't affect anybody AT ALL is bizarre and gives me "we have Seinfeld at home but he's just a cringe asshole" vibes.

What kind of life do people like this lead where they think EVERY SINGLE PASSING THOUGHT they have is SO important and insightful that they need to get it all out there?

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 2 points 5 minutes ago

You replied.

[–] djdarren@piefed.social 8 points 2 hours ago

Oh man, don't go looking me up on Mastodon then...

[–] Jtotheb@lemmy.world 7 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, this is a top 3 boilerplate response to someone sharing something boring online. Sharing is generally a pretty meaningful activity for humans. Sharing person to person is a lot better for us than shouting things out on social media but that’s the model that’s provided and the behavior that’s being modeled.

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

It's boilerplate because it's still true and people STILL can't tell the difference between insightful, useful information to share, and spewing stream of consciousness like they're a junior high school student who just learned about the concept and is ABSOLUTELY certain they're about to blow the world's mind with their unique and mind-blowing interpretations.

By the time you're old enough to be jetsetting, it's just pitiful.

"I spent way too much instead of eating before I left and need to make this about being better than everyone else."

People don't eat shitty overpriced airport food because they like it. They do it because they have no other choice.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Seems like such an American phenomenon. Food in US airports is by and large horrible, but in many countries it's pretty decent.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 55 minutes ago

Mexican airport food also isn't that great.

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 83 points 5 hours ago (4 children)

People who gatekeep fucking food can just shove it in their mouths and shut the fuck up.

[–] stark@sopuli.xyz 16 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

People who gatekeep fucking food …

How about we don’t fuck food at all

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Whoa. You're the worst kind of gatekeeper. Simultaneously gatekeeping food and kink shaming.

[–] okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 1 points 56 minutes ago

Then you explain it to your mother. That pie was supposed to be for eating, not for sating your carnal lust.

[–] theedqueen@lemmy.world 23 points 2 hours ago

Over airport food no less

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

Pizza gate keeping is amusing, no that isn't real pizza! OK, wtf is it then?

[–] square@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 hour ago

I do think a lot of things called pizza should be called flatbreads or something, but this is the first time I've ever expressed that opinion. It's just not that important.

Cannibals agree.

Americans when they don't translate the food:

It is pronounced "quasson" 🥐

ppl eat at airports and brag about it?

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

I think they’re joking around because the idea is such insecure, hyperbolic clout chaser nonsense. It felt like a Simpson reference. “Only the most sensual dances. The lambada, the Macarena.”

[–] Ele7en7@lemmy.world 7 points 3 hours ago

Seriously. I traveled 100% for work for about 12 years and I ate at an airport maybe twice, and that was only because I missed my connection and was going to be there for like 6 hours.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 hours ago

I mean I'll stuff myself with food and booze when at a lounge for a layover

Don't see much point in visiting the airport restaurants tho

Also don't fly very often

[–] lemmylommy@lemmy.world 17 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

If he is eating at an airport his beef likely came from the same factory as the cheeseburger.

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 hour ago

Probably came from the same horse too.

[–] Gust@piefed.social 14 points 4 hours ago

Panda express is the best airport food imo. Its the only place I've consistently been able to get plain grilled chicken, white rice, and broccoli. Very boring meal, but it doesnt cause my digestive system to bloat up or twist itself into knots, which is pretty peak for air travel days

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 hour ago

Comfort food has nothing to do with health and nutrition unless your momma use to make you kale salad and organic quinoa bowls, which she didn't.

No one's stopping you from microwaving your uncrustables.
