Mitochondria is the Napster of the cell.

You wouldn’t download a virus.

Oh, wait

If every cell in my body was seeding, you'd be able to download The Bee Movie in like 2 seconds.

What about Bee Movie 2

[–] vrek@programming.dev 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Back before writing when everything was oral history this was technically true. I mean files were stories and peer to peer transfer was telling each other stories.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

? That has nothing to do with viruses?

[–] vrek@programming.dev 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

True but also the image didn't either?

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Are we talking about the same image? Because the image I'm talking of says: (my emphasis)

fun fact:
your internal body temperature rises when you are infected because viruses are using your body for peer to peer file sharing

[–] vrek@programming.dev 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ok fine, it used the word virus, I just didn't consider that the primary point. Sorry if I upset you with my response earlier

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not upset, just confused.

The joke of the meme is that computer viruses will use your RAM to do stuff like mining crypto which will heat up your computer. Now the meme claims that biological viruses do the same with your body. This is wrong (obviously) because the body heat is actively done by the body to kill off the virus. Your comment has nothing to do with any of this so I was confused

I think you misunderstood my post. My point was not that viruses are trying to give you a fever. My point was that thousands of years ago this was true. Random stories were files, story telling was file sharing, telling a story by definition burns energy so increases heat. Anytime you use energy you make some amount of energy which gets burned off and often results in atleast minorly increased temperatures.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 month ago

Yes, I understood that but I saw no connection to the post. I guess I see it now. Thanks for your patience

Oh no I'm overheating how do I avoid thermal throttling

[–] TwilightKiddy@programming.dev 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I heard better cooling solutions help. Have you tried eating icecream?

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 4 points 1 month ago

Ice cream is a bit of an uneven cooler solution, only cooling selective components that might not be involved with any actually productive processes, which may then end up drawing more power if the thermal throttling is deactivated for those parts. So you'd be getting better cooling in total, but it won't be evenly distributed.

That's why things like cold wraps are more effective: They're water cooling for heat sinks covering large thermal conductors that will reduce the total system temperature and help avoid a catastrophic shutdown.

Or just silently mining crypto

[–] HeHoXa@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

... they're mutating (brute force cracking encrypted patterns) and transmitting (peer to pert data sharing)... I am a nucleic acid server

[–] idriss@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 month ago

I caught mine mining btc

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Whatever you do, don't close port number 2 permanently.
