Can birds actually look to their front??

Depends on the bird and what you mean by look. For binocular vision like humans, it's much smaller for non-predatory birds. Predatory birds like owls tend to have eyes that are forward facing, although smaller raptors (like sharp-shinned hawks) have eyes that are slightly more towards the side of the head by comparison, since in addition to preying on smaller things they're also prey to larger birds. Then when you get down to something like a pigeon, they can see almost completely behind them and have binocular vision (like humans and hawks) to the front, but less of it.

TL;DR: yes!
