As of a few minutes ago old.reddit.com now seems to requre logging in to access it.

Shame as it was still the best place to browse for info about some niche interests.

Edit: Seems like they might be testing the change as it is hit or miss at the moment.

Edit: Adding this to My flilters in uBlock Origin seems to fix the issue for the time being:

redreader still works without login. libreddit domain also works, just slow as hell for media.

[–] sanitation@lemmy.today 5 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Not just old reddit. Regular reddit also got login gated

[–] FE80@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Logging into old.reddit.com via tor browser works intermittently. As far as I can tell the reddit onion site is entirely broken.

Completely unrelated question: any recommendations for a good porn feed, besides fedinsfw.app?

I could start streaming my showers? I take two a day

[–] cdf12345@lemmy.zip 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (2 children)

Golden or otherwise?

(Trying to come up with a good reason for multiple showers per day, unless you live somewhere hotter and more humid than Satan’s asshole)

[–] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Not OC, but I'll sometimes take 2 a day in the summer. I'm pretty oily. Showering in the morning is fine for my skin feelings through the day, but it means I'm oiliest overnight and my sheets will show it. If I shower before bed, I end up feeling uncomfortably greasy by dinner the next day. So, two showers keeps me feeling acceptable. Summers typically hover around 30C and 60%+ humidity for two months, on top of additional outdoor activities.

Or, I guess, shortest alternative answer, I know several people that shower right after morning exercise and are otherwise night showerers.

Ah yes, Missouri

This news finally convinced me to make a Lemmy account so I can participate a little more instead of lurk. That, and generally how awful Reddit has been becoming for like, several years at this point, since the IPO.

I've swapped out RedReader on my phone's home screen with Boost; though I think it'll take some time to break the Reddit addiction.

I am looking forward to seeing Lemmy's growth!

[–] imminent_nebula@lemmy.ca 2 points 8 hours ago

I created a new account a year ago to lurk instead of comment, but you're right, participation = growth. I'll be joining in again.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

You're actually joining at a good time. When i created my account it was one post every few hours haha

Welcome! Lemmy lives on active participation, and you made the right call. Besides, the chatter here can get lively!

Not to mention we have some Lemmywide games and activities from time to time (the most recent being the Season 4 of !thebutton@lemmy.zip, the basic idea of which you may recognize from Reddit), and you'll need an account to take part!

[–] VirtuePacket@lemmy.zip 43 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Reddit is unusable without old reddit. Reddit.com is a horrible user experience.

I've seen this a few times, I've just abandoned the thing I clicked and quickly found a different source.

Wasn't even an inconvenience. This is a real stupid idea on Reddit's part.

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 7 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

reddit.com resolves to ::1 for me :)

That way I can't even accidentally click on a reddit link.

[–] SuspiciousCarrot78@aussie.zone 4 points 10 hours ago

The baller move would be to get reddit.com to resolve to lemmy.

Or meatspin, if you want (...negative?) reinforcement

Nice to see Reddit helping contribute to growth in the fediverse.

[–] phineas1134@reddthat.com 15 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

That's what brought me here. And so far I am loving it. Wish I had made the switch long ago.

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 7 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

I'm on my second account, (got a new phone and couldn't remember my password) but the nice thing is that it doesn't affect anything because it doesn't keep track of votes overall.

Is Reddit still a thing? I wasn't aware?

I thought that it had evolved into a bot parliament.

[–] Wav_function@lemmy.world 22 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (3 children)

Reddit is still a massive social media platform, it's corporatized and bot ridden but it's still huge.

There are whole generations of young people jumping on it only knowing it for what it is now and not what it was.

It's still a place to "anonymously" comment on and share media.

Lemmy is still a super niche nerd platform

[–] Geodes_n_Gems@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 hours ago

I think I went to Reddit at first because of what it was, I watched a lot of Reddit "reading" videos for a while so decided to join myself, but the Reddit I wanted to join was already gone by the time I actually did join, then it got worse until I didn't want to take it anymore, the AI got added, then the Games, that was the final straw I think.

[–] slickgoat@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago (3 children)

That's very true, for now.

At this moment Reddit is existing on its former reputation. There are a host of like internet megalithic platforms that are now not even distant memories. Once they outlive their former utility they fade pretty quickly. Think of MySpace, Friendster and Yahoo Groups. Even Facebook is circling the plughole, but it may take a while before disappearing due to its former dominant position.
